Yea, if the dashlight brightness controller/dimmer goes out, all the dashlights go out. Wonderful design feature lol.

The whole entire car body where there's metal is ground....... It's for everything. Whenever someone says ground, it's the car body.

There's a specific test to determine if your dashlight dimmer is bad, and here it is. Do this and if it's no good you have two options... Go grab another one (from the dealer or a junkyard), or you can simply jump RED to BLK with a paper clip or whatever and call it a day. If you jump it, though, keep in mind that your dashlights will be full bright when you turn them on. Your call.

Get an ohm meter and put one lead on the wire that should be ground and the other lead on ground. If there's continuity, it'll be 0 ohms, if there's a dirty connection, the ohms will read a number, but if there's no continuity, the meter won't change at all.
