Default 92 civic cx timing? sensors? ecu? not running right!

OK i have a 92 civic cx I put a d16y8 with srp pistons eagle rods, stock z6 head, skunk2 intake, 70mm edelbrock throttle body, unorthadox crank pulley, aem truetime cam gear (silver one), lsd jdm trans, fluydine radiator. I used a stock z6 wiring harness and p28 ecu.

Evertime i start this thing something is wrong:

1. intake air temp fixed that

2. really high idle, figured it was iacv so i tried 4 diff ones till one worked

3. Still randomly has high idle

4. threw code 3 map so i replaced that, checked for 5 volts between d19 and d21 and its 5.4v, checked it at sensor has 5.4 volts, also checked for continuity for signal wire and its good.

5. No more codes idles still at 1200-1500

6. adjust idle screw doesnt do anything

7. checked for vaccum leaks cant find any

8. checked timing runnin really rich adjusted timing, after this it ran great little high idle, I think it has air leak just cant find one

9. went out to start it today now timing is way retarded and off again

So everytime I start this car the timing is running different?

Im out of ideas and with no codes I dont know what to fix?

Its running really rich, and its not throwing any cel but if i do jump it the cel light stays on is that normal or is ecu just junk?

ok well i started it up again and it idles at 1500 on the dot then its drops 10-20 rpm all the way down to about 800 then when it warms up right before the fan kicks on it jumps all they way to 1800-2000 rpm and stays up there. So I replaced the intake mani gasket and rtv the iacv and put new coolant temp sensor in. I havent tried starting it again.

alright I tried starting it again after all of this and threw code 3 map again. Does anyone think it has anything o do with the 70mm aftermarket throttle body sending wrong amount of air to map? Would a missing link possibly fix this? or Is the ecu no good? v on the map send 5.04 volts to it. Ground is good also. Does anyone have anything that could possible help?

Did you wiretuck your car? Cause a friend of mine wiretucked his and also has the idling problem like you did. It's one of the sensors or one of your harness is messed up.

Hey thanks for the response!, but no i havent done a wiretuck yet haha, I was going to after I had it running good. This is driving me nuts cause I cant set the ignition timing till i get the idle right. Its throwing map code 3 again I cleaned the connections and tested all th wires again and they are good, I checked cts, iat, map, reset voltage on tps is .5v when closed tried 4 or 5 diff map sensors and 4 diff iacv, still nothing, weird thing is everytime I change the map sensor its fine for awhile, then after lik 5 times of running it, it will throw code 3?

Alright well It was the map sensor connector, yel 5v connection was loose so I replaced the connector. Fixed that, now I have an irratic idle it surges from 1000 to 1700, if I unplug its just surges faster if I put my hand over the hole throttle body it idles awesome at like 700 rpm. Does anyone have any ideas? Sprayed everything with carb and choke cleaner no rise out of motor. Going to try tps or egr valve will post about it when done.

You have an air leak. Did you use a new gasket when installing the throttle body? Taken off the intake manifold recently?

If you put your hand over the throttle body opening... the car should die due to lack of air. Not run great at 700rpm.

right he put his hand over the tb opening it idled good. you definately have an air leak or a missing plug. make sure there are no openings on the intake manifold ie nipples and hose connetions plug em all!!!

also o2 sensors and map sensors should be checked you may need to clean the connectors with electric cleanner. p28 ecu on a d series that dosent sound right. I'll have to look into that one!

Alright well finally got the thing fixed. It was the vaccum hose going to the bottom of the egr valve to the intake. And the tps was set a little low. Also the plug on the Iacv was loose so we switched out that plug and the tps plug. It runs perfect now! Thanks to all who responded to the posts! Im tryin to put as much info as I can for anyone else that runs into these problems. Also with a y8 block z6 head timing is dead on with Y8 aem truetime camgear retarded 4.5* running on stock p28.
