Default 92-95 Civic dash swap (blue to black)

Opi's CX came with blue interior, which neither of us likes, so we had been talking about swapping everything over to black. Awhile back, Opi'd friend wired up EX panels (power windows/locks), so those were black, along with a black arm rest and audio console, the blue dash, panels, and carpet looked crappy. A friend of ours recently came up with a full black interior set up from a wrecked Si, and Opi snatched it up with the quickness.

Removing the dash really wasn't as hard as most think, just takes some patience, with 3 us hunting for bolts, we had it out in no time. First pulled the cluster and stereo to get a better view, then also dropped the steering column to avoid breaking the turn signal and wiper arms on the dash's way out.

Everything goes back in the way it came out, just have to take time to make sure all of the harnesses are plugged in, everything is grounded (dash/stereo) and piece it back together. Rear panels were a breeze, as I'm sure most have done that before. Original VIN number was utilized as well.

Since everything was out, the Civic's cargo area was scrubbed compltely as the pics show how dirty it was.

Blue dash...

Dirty cargo area, and umm spaghetti wire bundles ...

We're screwed

Sprayed and scrubbed...

Glovebox and a few miscellaneous plastics weren't included in the deal, so I had to rattle can them, not bad, only temporary, new black glove box will arrive Monday...

Black dash installed...

Pretty much finished, just buttoning it up, also rewired the system to clean up all the damn wires...

Good job! couple questions... difficulty level? was it hard, how long did it take? did all CX's come with blue interior?

My CX arrives on Monday from Florida, it looks like it has black interior, but it could be a dark grey... did CX's come with black interior? and was vinyl an option?

thanks!

I believe certain white CXs had black interiors. Only white ones had the blue interior though. My old gray one had a gray interior. And yes vinyl was an option, as in seats and doorpanels. Gray/Black/Blue.

The dash came out pretty easy in my opinion, only about 30minutes worth of fiddling, and it came right out. I suggest dropping the steering column to avoid breaking the blinker and wiper arms. We had 3 people, so it wasn't all that hard. If you're by yourself, it would suck .

Of the CX's I've seen, they've always been vinyl. Not sure which years came with blue interior vs black interior, but all the white ones I've seen have been blue interiors.

The plastic cover? It's just held on with tabs. Once you remove the cluster, you depress the tabs and slide the plastic lens off.

So the CX only came with blue or black interior? Once the dash was in, was it a tight fit? Mind if I ask how much you paid for the dash and door panels?

nice job guys!

My friend always comments on how I can sell my Si interior to him since he wants it so badly....

Since I am building a racecar of sorts.... I've always wondered how much harder it is to go from:

THIS

TO

THIS

I still have a small piece of the firewall mat and actually some rust in some areas on the firewall I'd like to get to and fix before it becomes something crazy cancerous....

Man, I bet if you paid to have it shipped, or picked it up from SD, he'd give it to you for like 20 bucks, he doesn't need it.

Naw, it wasn't really a tight fit, everything went right back where it was supposed to. Just a matter of matching up all the right screws and bolts. The door panels were done about a year ago, they're from an EX, his friend bought a few sets from the local junkyard with the window motors and guts, I think they were 150. The rest of the interior was really cheap, cause the guy didn't need it, so he got lucky.
