Default 92-93 vs 94-95 civic a/c interchange....info you should know!

this is for everyone with either a 92-93 civic or a 94-95 civic with non-working a/c but with say....access to the other type of car.

you can use either 94-95 or 92-93 stuff with the other car as LONG as you swap everything up to the two lines that connect under the air cleaner.

I have a 93 hatch and just swapped over all the components from a 94 LX and while all the other lines, etc didnt want to swap over, I was able to get them to connect to my 93 hard lines under the air cleaner (the ones coming immediately out of the firewall and ending under the aircleaner).

why did I do this you ask?? because 92-93 uses R12 compressor and 94-95 uses the 94-00 R134 compressor. obviously I wanted to switch over to the r134 so I could use over the counter refrigerant...

now I can and I didnt have to pull my dash out and swap over the core, etc.

not sure how complete your r12 system was but alot of dealerships still have access to and can recharge your r12 system. but good to know if anyone wants to swap over.

my '92 si civic hatch blowing nice and ice cold r12

i have a 93 lx sedan that came with no ac i have a complete ac off a 95 which i havent full put in i see imma run into a problem with the evapoator the part you call the air cleaner there is a wire to connect it which has a 2 pin connector but the evapoator has a 3 pin on tyhe same harness i found a 3 pin connector next to the plug where u pull the ecu codes anyone know if i can use this plug wor will i have to get a 93 evap or can i switch that plug on the evap itself? or 95 harness?

it was a complete r12 system with a bad compressor and drier.

dont take it wrong. I have access to r12 and the gauges but dad makes too much money to toss it into my car with the possibility of a leakdown and loss of all that r12...

r134 for free gets my vote every day. that's why I just took the parts off a 94 lx we are going to crush. I think the compressor is going to fail in the next few months anyway.

On my 93 EX, I evacuated the system and refilled with R134a. Worked flawlessly for 2 years after, and I've never seen a 40 degree a/c since.

what risk is there in putting the new r134a in a 93 civic?

nothing if you dont have any r12 oil left in the two lines or the evap core.

I flushed my system by taking a can of r134 oil and dumping it in one of the lines going to the core and then with the other line attached to a small length of hose pointed into a trash can (with my brother holding it lol). I hit the end of the one line with compressed air to blow everything out the other end into the trash can.

this pretty much got rid of most of the residue...any that's left is so minute' it doesnt really matter.

then I just bolted on all the r134 components, pulled a vacuum, and charged it up to see what would happen.

oh, and if everyone is wondering why you cant just swap over the a/c compressor from the 94+ its because one of the lines going into the compressor itself changes in size from 92-93 versus 94+ (which would be the other main reason they have two different part #'s aside from internal sealing for the respective refrigerant).

AND one of the lines going into the drier has a different end on it. Then you basically have to swap the condensor as well due to the way the lines mount into the condensor.

good thing though that both of the lines going along the passenger frame rail connect just fine lol. I would have hated to pull the dash and swap the evap core.
