92-92 vx vtec-e
do we have any civic vx vtec-e experts on this forum? i was puzzled when LKQonline on ebay is selling this motor claiming it is for 92-95 civic vx vtec-e? i know this motor and car pretty well now after owning it for 5 yrs. and by no means am i and expert either. im always learning stuff from this forum and others all the time. but i just couldnt let this go that lkqonline claims this motor is a suitable replacement for the vx. my vx has block stamp d15z1. you can see in the ebay ad the block stamp is d15b. so i looked up this motor here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine#D15B and as you can see this motor has way more hp than the vx has(92). but more importantly the vtec in the vx works opposite from a normal vtec. this is why it get 55mpg. so anyway my question is does anyone out there know how this motor works so as to think that the motor lkq is selling is a suitable replacement? i hope i gave enough details or info that i explained my point? i was just trying to tell lkq that this is not a replacement motor and lkq is telling me it is?
any help or insight that i can tell lkq?

Re: 92-92 vx vtec-e
From what I understand there was at least 5 different D15B motors in Japan, a dual carb, a non vtec, a single vtec, a vtec-e and a dual vtec/3 stage motor.
So in your case you are at the mercy of the seller. Just like their claim that it has less than 60,000 miles on the motor.
As for 92-95, it will fit any 92-95 chassis without any issue. In Canada I think the VX was only offered 92 and 93, but the offering of the equivalent may have been longer in other countries.
The only way to know without a doubt is upon receipt, inspect the cam to see if the extra lobe is the low profile lobe.
Hope this info proves helpful. Maybe one of the other members has more insight.

Re: 92-92 vx vtec-e
The D15b VTEC-E is listed as OBD2a at the wiki D-series link, so inquire with the eBay seller whether your OBD1 VX ECU is compatible. If not, ask what ECU is required.
And you would also want to find out whether this JDM motor would pass your state's car emissions and inspection.

one more question? i found this on d15z3 vtec-e and d15b5 vtec-e from the wiki page. does every civic block have that full code stamped on them? weather its a d15b6 or d15z3 or what ever it is?
