91 octane enough???
i have a b16 with a compression ratio of 11 to something. i beleive the psi i tested was at 220 on a cold motor. I am wondering is 91 octane enough for the car to run right???

if it's tuned properly there's no reason why it wouldn't run perfectly on regular 91/93 high test. certainly no need for race gas if that's what you were wondering.

Your knock sensor will retard the timing as much as possible to reduce detonation. So you most likely aren't getting full power running 11.0:1 on 91 octane. But then again... Maybe the ECM cannot comphesate enough and your piston will start getting sun burnt by pinging.

Re: 91 octane enough???
yes thats what i thought but heres the thing, from time to time when the temperature outside gets hot and i mean hot like around 100 degrees farenheit my car seems to not work, or not well. i was thinking it had something to do with the fuel or at least air. My car would not start, on and off. and sometimes driving on the highway for awhile it would seem to lose all power even being provided gas. I called a tow truck today , tried getting my car to work for 30 mins, waited 1 hour for the tow truck guy , i turn on my car and it works. ticks me off alittle. but even without a tune, i dont see why my car would die from time to time. today it was 106 degrees.

Re: 91 octane enough???
It was kinda stupid but, when i was testing spark plugs and wire. I had 3 pluged in and one wire out with a spare spark plug, and while i turned the engine on the car came to life, running on 3 cylinders. lol

Personally, I think you should probably run 93 in it.
Compression ratio on the GSR is 10.6:1, and Honda recommends 91. If you're running 11:1, my opinion's that you should use 93.
ECM = Engine Control Module, same as ECU.

Re: 91 octane enough???
theres absolutely no reason to run 91 with just a gsr.
i have 10.4:1 (sir2) and ran it on 87 for awhile and right now constantly run it on 89 and it works perfectly. i doubt that a .2 up in comp would mean you need to run 91.
whatevers wrong with your car id blame something besides the octane of the fuel.

Re: 91 octane enough???
well i was just thinking that since gasoline burns better when its cooler, so on that hot day, my gas and air was probably hot so it might of lessoned the burst in by combustion chamber or something which caused my car to not start. ony a guess
