Is the '91 Civic EX 4-door Master Cylinder still the best bolt-on MC Upgrade?
Guys,
I am doing research on the best MC upgrade for my '93 Hatch and came across Tom's old thread (9 years old - time flies!).
My question is quite simple: Is the MC upgrade that Tom mentions in the above thread still the best bolt-on upgrade for my car? I prefer bolt-on, but if significant improvements can be had by doing some minor extra work, I'd like to consider other solutions as well.
My current setup:
Thanks!
-Walter

My current setup:
- Front GSR/LS brake swap
- Rear GSR/LS disc brake swap (not installed yet)
- 40/40 Proportioning Valve (not installed yet)
- Stock MC and Booster
Thanks!

Yes, unless you want to go with a '94 - '97 Integra MC/brake booster combo from a non-abs model.

The Integra master cylinders are more common. And I have gotten a couple off of 1990-93 Integras. It's the same part number.
Aside from that, I do not know the sizes. I think you use the Civic booster on the Civic EX master cylinder. The Integra master cylinder only fits on the Integra booster. The Integra booster IS a little bigger, so if you have a H22 or something, it may be a little tighter. Not certain on this though.
A friend of mine is parting his K swapped sedan out, he's finally settling down and there's more important things than cars. He has an Integra master cylinder and booster for sale for $50 for the pair I think. PM me if you're interested. I'm going to his place thursday to get a couple parts from him for my car.

i am running a 15/16ths mc and brake booster from a 99 civic ex on my hatch, works great, and IMO the different styled reservoir looks better imo. the booster is slimmer than 90-97 integras, 98+ got the same style, along with preludes etc.
fwiw first gen preludes have 15/16ths mc too, and they bolt right up to the stock brake booster, you just have to bend the front line down slightly as the prelude has both lines coming out at a 90* angle from the reservoir as apposed to the front one being at about a 45* angle on the civics and integras.

Thanks guys.
DCRB: Do you have a pic of your setup? I am curious to see the redesigned style.
I am still undecided. Ideally I'd like to get the simplest to install (I don't want to bend the lines at all). I don't mind changing the booster with the Integra MC if it yields better pedal feel than the MC swap alone though.

sure :-)
here's the 98-01 style brake booster and master cylinder combo, installed in my 88 hatch:
I had to rebend the front one and twist the rear one around, but as long as you're getting the hard lines from a non abs ek you should be able to swap those two hardlines into your eg since the prop valve is located on the fire wall in both cars...
here's the stock bb/mc from my 90 sedan, along with the 15/16ths ms from the 1st gen prelude i found, the front line will need a slight tweak but that's it

DCRB: very helpful, I really appreciate the pictures and description.
I thought the line modification would have been much more difficult.
Thanks again for sharing.

just found this post. very helpful.
i am considering the change in booster and m/c as well.
i was thinking of the integra tho. i like to just take advantage of the 1 inch if possible.
i to have the skunk2 manifold like in the picture and was curiuos if the integra combo would still fit?
on a civic ef 91
skunk2 intake manifold
