86 Civic Wagon, Overheated badly
I just bought a basket case. An 86 Civic, carburated engine, cheap interior, I think it has AC. A lot of engine parts are in the back of the Wagon. I've not seen it in the Daylight yet.
It's been overheated. Somebody replaced the Head gasket and it still over heated. He says it put steam (White Smoke) out the exhaust!
He pulled the head back off and found water in the two center cylinders.
I dont know how good this guy is. The water could get in there when he seperated the Head.
Whaddya think?
Has the Civic engine suffered from warped blocks?
Was there something simple that's been missed?
Is the engine Aluminum?
I dont know where I'm at with this thing, but I've always loved a good puzzle.
Lets hope it doesnt get too expensive.
It needs tho air shock for the Back Deck lid, and has just a little rust on the bottom corners of the deck lid. Other than that, it looks good. Dont know about the Brakes and Mufflers.
What MPG does a Civic Wagon get? (one thats in good shape)

anytime you blow the headgasket...esp if you continue to run your car, you run the risk of warping the head.
also, if the problem was the headgasket in the first place, and the person fixing the gasket torqued down the head incorrectly, the new gasket is going to leak just like the last one.

Yes.. the block is aluminum, but the cylinder chambers have a steel sleeve to resist high temperatures and prevent warping..
I would go back and have the headgasket replaced with the original OEM headgasket and headbolts.. have the engine block and cylinder head "straight-edged" to make sure they are in specification and that there is no warpage..
