54 MPG, D15B8 or ???
I remember very vividly looking at a Civic HB back in the early 90s That had 54MPG in the window sticker. Now I'm trying to find out wich engine that was. Does anyone know? I suspect it was the D15B8 but I need someone to varify it. Anyone? Thanks.

You realize that consumer charts (the sticker of the city/hw mpg) is a complete lie, right?
Can you say...100% optimal conditions, rubber track, 55 MPH, computer controlled, 150% impossible in real life conditions?
Anyways, probably the D15Z1 - uses VTEC-E (economical VTEC). The B8 is the CX motor (I'm pretty sure) which gets good gas mileage, but not as good as the Z1.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the "city" and "highway" MPG stickers that come on the factory that look the same regardless of what car it is are a waste of everybodys' time.
They're not accurate at all, completely impractical, and only used under the absolute best conditions.
They do NOT include coasting as putting your car in neutral or clutching.
They're "supposedly" from continuous driving.
Though as my problem with them makes perfect sense, they were going to change them about 6 months ago...that's the last I ever heard of them. Everybody knows they're fake and completely inaccurate anyways except for the real retards and gems of society.

The closest thing I can find to what you are thinking of on http://www.fueleconomy.gov for 1992 would be the VX
According to the EPA, the 1992 VX with a shift indicator light would give 48 city/55 hwy and 51 combined. The 1992 VX without a shift indicator light is rated at 44 city/51 hwy and 47 combined.
I think you were probably looking at a VX.

this is possibly the biggest myth in terms of fuel mileage.
if you have ever watched a wideband air fuel gauge you would know this.
at idle your air fuel ratio stands near 15.1 ish depending on make of the car.
when you are in full vaccume at 0% throttle from 3500 ish rpm under your car uses almost 0 fuel and the injectors almost shut compleatly off.

Re: (goldegg)
i made it from nashville TN to Panama city FL on a full tank in my 91 civic std . i put a b16a in it and easily saw 400 miles to a tankfull just at normal driving . pulled that same b16 and put it in my 94 si eg and still getting same mileage . this is with ctr cams , sk2 manifold , 4-1 header , 9.5 lb flywheel , full portflow valvetrain , and single belt pulley for the altenator.

Yeah, there was a little stink about this in either motortrend or Car and Driver back when the VX was new. Turns out you have to keep it around 55 mph to get that awesome highway mileage. Not very possible nowadays.

Re: (The_Head)
Like already posted it was most likely the VX that you looked at. If you can find on in good shape and with the stock drive line it, it should return good gas mileage. You might want to check out this site it covers a lot on saving gas and I think there where several vx hb on there doing 50+mpg with a little work
