1. Might be the oil doing quite the better job. Also was the Castro thinner like 5-30?
2. Could be the ball joints, my EG used to make this knocking sound also on left turns. Never found out what it was and it kinda went away and came back over and over. Could also be the CV joints, you won't know because its inside the boot.
3. In 1st gear I think all manual cars will rock back and forth as it closes and fires the injectors. The knocking sound is probably related to question number 2 seeing as when it rocks, it creates more load on your suspension and the ball joint being part of that.
