ok i bought a 92 hatch and it has 3'' exhaust piping on it is that to much pipe on a non turbo ls motor ..and is running open header harm anything

yes 3" is way too big. 2 1/4" should suit your needs just fine. and also running open is header is bad. it will burn up your valves and causing extreme premature valve train wear.

I have the Megan Racing Drift Spec exhaust -- for well over a year and I love it: 2.5 inch stainless steel all the way back, no problems with welds failing, rust, or anything like that.

on a scale of 1 (being lowest) to 10 (being highest) how would you rate the exhaust tone from the megan catback?

im wanting a ws2 but im keeping my options open.

Running open header will NOT hurt your valves... I've had this argument with pretty much all of my friends that think they know about car ****.

It would only "hurt" valves is if you had valves the same material as the ones they did in the 40's, it will not affect modern valves.

Also, the idea is that cold air could suck back into the engine when you turn it off, causing them quickly change in temperature and "burn" them, I guess that would make sence except for the fact that there is more than enough air space in the header for that not to happen.

When I did my swap I ran open header for 2k miles or so (I was poor at the time), 40k miles later it still runs perfect, even though many of my friends SWORE that i would destroy my engine.... please.

Anyways, I doubt its mandrel bent 3", so you'll be fine, even if it were mandrel bent it wouldn't affect performance too much, you may lose like 3 lf lbs of torque.

^Most likely. But probably not a whole lot. I would go with a smaller one!

yeah i deff am going to get a smaller one soon as i get some money cause i dont want to lose any power cause the piping is too big and i get pulled over all the time cause its loud as hell lol..but thanks for all the input guys

I used to have that setup but i thought it was pretty damn loud w/o the silencer.

you can burn you valves but only in extreme cold weather and at dosent acculy burn the valves it burns the valve seals when the hot air mixes with the cold air it combusts , hear is an example you have an exhaust leak or you put a new cat back on you car but forget to put a gasket on the rear section after acelerat n you let off the gas causing cold air to be sucked on the pipe n causing a back fire when it reacts with the hot air flowing through you exhaust

yeah im not going to mess around with running open header just so i dont have to worry about anything happening ill just wait to put on a whole new exhaust

Backfires are un-burnt fuel igniting somewhere in the exhaust system, not cold/hot air reacting together
