3 cylinder civic, Runs on three! Help
I have a 93 Civic with the base D15 engine, I have replaced just about everything on it now and am out of ideas! Belive it or not it will not start, it turns over and tries but will not. Take out one spark plug, does not matter which one and it will start. The list of things replace covers all that my buddies (one Honda Master tech) and I could think of. The guy I bought it from said he had just had a valve job done and it hasn't ran since he put it back togeather. Here are most of the things replaced below. I wanted to get this one running befor putting my JG B18 block into it. Any help???
New Distrabutor
New Plugs
New Wires
New fuel pump (Welbro 255)
Timing
New Main relay
3 different ECU from running cars
Compression test= Good
Leakdown test = Good
Cam timing= correct
Fuel injectors cleaned and flowed.
Cleaned out idle valve.
Valves re-adjusted
Throttle position sensor tested
MAP sensor replaced
Take out any sparkplug and it will start as long as the one cylinder is open.
It will die if you try to put the removed plug back in while it is running. Someone out there must have seen this befor?

He did a valve job and then he didnt have the car running anymore? Try doing a valve adjustment.

Yes what were they?
Make sure your plug wires are correct on the distributor, and double/triple check your timing (make sure the cam, crank pulley are lined up, and make sure the rotor button is pointing the the cylinder 1 plug wire post on the dist cap). I would do a valve adjustment yourself after checking the above, and before trying to start it again.

Yes, valves were checked and set correctly. Plug wires numerous times, timeing numerous times. I guess it may have to go to the Honda dealer!
Leakdown and compression test were both good. I have built Big and Small block chevy engins for 40 years. This is my first and maybe last Honda project.

Re: 3 cylinder civic, Runs on three! Help (vpmac)
so you have replaced the coil and igniter.
I had a similar problem with a 91 Si I brought at an auto action. Damn thing ran when i purchased it, but when I went to take it home it wouldn't start. I thought someone may have messed with it while it was sitting, but it was something in the distributor. I pulled one plug off of the distributor cap and it would start but the arc from the distributor to the plug wire was very weak. i assumed it was the coil and just replaced the entire distributor with another used one and it started fine.
How's the charging system? Is the battery and alternator good?

Yep, you can add new battery to that list. Firing order now there is an idea! I build 500cu in V8's. I know firing order, I said this was my first Honda not my first build.

alright MR know it all, then why the F*** are you on here asking questions???????????????? (master mac.) why don't you think, just stop and think for once it's almost always the simplest thing that's wrong, and if you have been doing this **** for a long time then by now you sould know one thing, you always double check now take your ***, and go fix that ****.

O yeah and let me tell you one thing, the fireing order on a v8 is not the same on a 4 banger. lol and don't talk to me about building V8, Im a pit crew member on Rick Calangalo's Nittro Injected 4000 hp 5 sec Dragster. And I can rebuild a V8 faster then you can do a tune up on you p.o.s 650 hp v8
