ha all motor u gonan be spendin a **** load of money.. cheapest way would be eaither to put some pistosn and rods in teh sohc and boost it.. make about 250.. thas what i got... or put a ls and turbo it.. and u will ahve fun.. and as for hte coil overs once u lower ur car u will need to get an allignment and possibly camber kits.. so good luck and jsut amke sure u do resurch and dont be affraid to ask ? but yeah turbo its chepest for 200 hp

You can easily make good numbers with a SOHC turbo setup. Pay attention to how your build and preparation goes, if you intend to be making safe numbers though.

Look around on that site and ask people about there setups. The z6 you have is pretty popular for a boostable d-series.

lol beat you to it(I am a senior as well with i would say 190ish 200whp, would have more but out of injectors for my baby)
yeah you are right on with the money part and f/i is the way to go, also do yourself a favor and get some arp head studs if you are going for those #'s just to be safe.
some little/HUGE advice, dont buy cheap parts, you can buy parts for cheap but make sure they are quality parts(i have some cheap parts like my all of my charge pipes, and they blow off every now and then).
you have the money part now research and research and dont buy cheap parts as well as look around for a tuner nearest you, and dont use a piggy back fuel/timing system.

dude its your senior project right? hypothetically you fail if you don't complete right?
Focus your subject on "junk yard turbo" show your teachers what you can do with such little money, IMO that will impress them. 700$ Volvo turbo, ebay piping kit, inter-cooler, yada yada. no need to break down your motor and put in internals. just keep it under 11psi. that's plenty of work for a senior project. definitely read up on the site posted above, check out junkyardturbo.com and othe sites. 200 hp will be in grasp with 11psi.

Do NOT use that indeed.
when it comes time for your ecu needs, talk to me. Ill help you out the best I can. I still have my old tune from my stock internal sohc. all I had was injectors and 11 psi. if you have the socketed ecu, ill sell you chip for 10 buck that will run your sohc very nicly, next best thing is a dyno tune

if you build it right, there will be no reliability issues. Just read up as much as possible on FI, make a list of everything you need. Read threads on other peoples progress and builds, save some pictures of a setup you will most likely go with and then start buying parts! good luck. I wish my school had a senior project like this.. should be alot of fun.

Actualy NO i dont want an engine explosion</TD></TR></TABLE>
well if you have the right setup(right size injectors, motor is good compression wise, and what not else)
after that 90% or more is tune and timeing, if you dont have a tune or your timing is off, say good bye to your engine(cheap engines but you still will pay in the long run and have more work of swapping another engine in if you blow it). TUNE TUNE TUNE. and make sure you have quality parts(name brand turbo, intercooler piping that has bead rolled ends, t-bolt clamps, atleast 2.5in exhaust, tial or turbonetics WG, cast iron or log manifold, some sort of intercooler and atleast 310cc injectors or bigger......i would highly suggest 440's or 450's if you want 200whp. some sort of bov, you could prob cheap out on the bov part mine was like 10bucks and worksl like a champ, good oil lines with a oil restrictor)
to much to list but if you are not familiar with something i just said, type it in on the search button at the top right of your screen, i did not cover everything but alot is covered.
