2003 civic ex, Manual drive, 30,000 mile service
this might sound stupid but i m curious to know this. I have 2003 civic, ex, manual drive, and got 30,000 miles on this. I have to get the service done on this. What do you think is required at this point ? because on the hood, it says No valve settings needed. also transmission service is sugged at 60,000 miles. But dealer includes all this. cost comes to around $400.00. Let me know what is necessorry to keep the car in shape and in warranty. Thanks

Just do what it says in the manual for maintenance. For your car, there is no 30K maintenance per se, but the dealer may say there is because that's how they make money (like oil changes every 3K). Also, there's a big difference between 'normal' and 'severe' duty service schedules.
The 7th gens have some pretty long service intervals; and everything that's required is fairly simple. You could do it yourself with just a few hand tools (ex. air filter and oil change). Most of the money spent on the dealer service charge is for checking and oiling things, not the service itself.

Dealers just try to **** you on the scheduled maintenance. Get yourself a shop manual and do the "inspections" yourself, do an oil change, replace your air filter and you are good to go. After buying the shop manual, oil, filters etc. and doing the work yourself, you should have about $300 left over.

Not if you perform the maintenance as outlined in the manual. You don't have to get service done by the dealer to maintain your warantee, nor do you have to follow thier schedule. Like I said, alot of dealers are still quoting 3K oil changes and 30K maintenance in order to increase revenue (they make more money from service than selling cars). Follow your manual as to the maintenance schedule, and you should be fine.

when i worked at honda 30K was just oil change and tire rotation...everything else just depends on the last time you did it, like air filter, spark plugs/wires etc. I think induction service is recommended at 30K

Yeah, up to 2000. I was looking over my girls 7th gen manual, and it was even longer. Maybe 60K?

okay whatever guys. the main point is, you dont have to go to your Honda dealer and get ripped off for them to tell you your car needed new (nonsense) parts. ignore what all these ppl are saying about when thigns are to be done. look through YOUR service manual you were given, keep a little memo pad of maintance done (easy reference) and your warranty will still be intact.
