Default 2002 civic si

Hey what do you guys think of the new si coming out? I personally like it, the handeling is equivilant to the latest model of the integra type r. I heard that the only difference between the new si and the the new rsx type s motor is a performance chip. Wouldnt it be great to upgrade to the type s chip and have a 200hp hatch like the new 2002 civic type r in japan. I think everybody needs to give this car a chance it looks like a great performance platform to start with.

yeah, hopefully there will be a large enough market for it here in the states or it won't be here for too long.

Perfomance wise It's a good Starting Platform, but I personally think it looks like a FORD FOCUS.

Actually, the difference is the new SI gets the RSX base model engine....2.0 i-VTEC, not the RSX Type S engine with the aggressive cams.

What I hate about the new SI is the fact that it has that center shifter thingy, forgot what they called it but it isn't on the floor its in the dash.

They do that for the rising popularity of rallyX. It's also supposed to be better ergonomics to have the shifter so high.

so if the only difference is the aggressive cams then upgrade to those from the type s. You'd have a sick little hatch on your hands.

I agree. I think that the design will get dated REAL FAST. I'm not a fan of the creased panel look myself and the focus just looks F'in bizarre.

Personally i like the new RSX or maybe i'll finally grow up and get an Acura CL or a prelude..... Nahhh I'll stick to my trusty 92 snatchback.

I don't remember the full difference between the base model engine and the type S engine but, look at the difference between a GSR and a Type R B18 and you get the idea. Either way, a quick swap and you have that power you are right and yes the new SI is going to be a power house but with any car weighing that much with a 2.0 in it will be fast, now it is a question of aftermarket support and looks.

Everything looks promising exept one thing.
Very heavy...The Type R in Japan and UK is 2645 and thats lighter than the Si will be.
Thats 50 lbs more than it's big brother the Integra Type R (DC5 the one we don't have yet).
We'll see...

if it uses the base RSX engine .. it only have i-vtec on it intake valves ...
if it uses the Type S engine .. the exhaust valve also have i-vtec .....

from what i read from european magazine for the type R ..

they love it .... the dashboard mounted gear shifter ... althougth somewhat different .. but they say it works fine ......

well .. cant wait till it get here .. so i can get a test drive ....

The '02 Si doesnt share motors with the Base RSX. Same K series motor but different internals, etc. I like the car but it needs a little R treatment.

Both the Type S and RSX utilize VTC on the intake or exahust cam only, can't recall which cam it is but I know it's only operative on 1 cam. VTEC is utilized on the intake side only for the RSX, the RSX Type S get's VTEC on both the intake and exahust cams. It's kinda like the difference between the D16Y8 (intake VTEC only) and B16A (VTEC on both cams), except in this case both motors are twin cammers.

I'd buy an SVT Ford Focus way before I'd slap down 20+ on a Si Hatch.

It does look like a focus. Has anyone seen any ideas of what the body kit companies have yet for it?

i think the shifter location is pretty cool.
i'd love to try it, but it seems to me like
it would take away any cruisability.

..put a short shifter on that thing and
you'll be shifting with your radio dials

now lets see how long it takes for someone to try and fit that in their 92 hatch or a CRX

it seems pretty cool, but if you see it in a photo w/o anything next to it (people, other cars etc.), its hard to tell wether its a hatch, or a minivan...not a plus in my book.
