Default 2001 Civic Si (EX in States) with 127hp 1.7L.........question

I am new to this forum. I am thinking about getting 2001 Civic 1.7L with 127hp.
- Is this a good car for its price
- Any major problems, recalls....
- How fast is the car from traffic light to traffic light?
- How easy is passing on the highway...do you need to downshift.....how good is the pick-up in 5th gear?
- how does the car do 1/4mile.........factory results say 16.5sec .....is that true
- what are the potentials for mods (header, exhaust, intake, chip....)
- how fast is the car on city streets compared to VW Golf, Chevy Z24, .....

Need your experienced opinion on it.

Thanks guys,

Freestyle

You will be dissatisfied in a very short time with this car.

yea i have a 93 ex, and i drove the 01 and it didn't impress me at all. IMO the 5th and 6th gen's are a lot better to tune and over all more fun to drive

If you are in the market for a new car to drive everyday, that will be a great investment. But do not confuse it for a race car. You will get your *** handed to you daily if you try to mess with people in that car.

If all you are going to do is drive around and try to win races stop-light to stop-light, go ahead and buy that car for your own safety. If you had a car that was actually fast I would be afraid you would kill yourself or someone else with the mentality that you are displaying.

If you want a fun car, buy a 2000 or older civic. If you just want an Eco car, buy a new civic.

*edit* My 94 civic STOCK beat the **** out of a few 01's before she went under the knife.

Now it's going to be murder! Buwahahaahah.

When I asked a question about how fast the car is from light to light, I did not say that I would do street racing.......in fact I am totally against street racing. But that question was more inclined to the pick up speed of that car because we all like to gun it sometimes and if you don't get satisfied by it, then it sucks.

The 95 civic Ex's ran 15.9 to a 16.1 in the 1/4 mile,I love those older civic coupes.

The new Civics are reliable, good gas mileage, etc. They are NOT fast cars. Also, very expensive to modify past the usual crappy i/h/e that everyone does, as everything is still custom, like doing a turbo kit and things of that nature.

They have potential, but it will be a very long time before they'll be able to compete dollar for dollar performance wise with the older Civic generations.

But if you want a good daily driver, it's the car for you.

I think you'd have to be run over by it to feel the power.
