2000 SIR -- No power in Vtec + weird noise.
Hey guys, thanks for checking this out.
This is a 2000 honda civic SIR with the B16A. Today I drove it for the first time and it started good and idled good, so I took it for a drive.
The clutch grabbed at the very top, so I imagine that will need replacing soon, anyways, in the lower RPM the car drove awesome, as soon as it was like 4K+ and the intake was screaming, it seemed like it was losing power, and then VTEC kicked in and there was NO power gains, it almost seemed like it was losing power. 2nd gear would hardly pull to 90-100Kmh, also in the higher RPM it made some sound, I'll try my best to discribe the sound lol.
It made me think of a sprinkler, almost like some kind of pressure was releasing, and as the RPM's got higher, the sound got faster. Could this be serious?
Any opinions or info would be so appreciated. Thanks for looking

i believe if u cant feel a difference in power as your vtecin your solenoid could be bad or if it makes a vtec sputtering noise you could be shorting a wire or solenoid i hope its a wire not the solenoid thats a 300 dollar part or as your rpms go up and u lose giddy up look behind u and check for smoke u may be burning oil through a bad gasket

nobody else experience this before?.... if the car idled and drove nice in low/midrange RPM, could it still be possible there is something more serious going on(internal)?

is your clutch slipping? if the engine is working properly and is not throwing codes but the car is barely going the clutch could be the culprit

there was no CEL,could a slipping clutch make noise? like sputtering noise?... also if it was the clutch slipping, wouldn't it smell like clutch?
