Default 2000 Si Brake light problem and CHECK ENGINE LIGHT Question

I have 2 problems, 1 my brake lights dont work at all, the tail lights do but the brake lights dont. Is there anything common things thats I should check before I start diggin around and trying to figure out the problem... I know theres a fuse in the engine bay that controls the horn and brakes, I checked it and its good.... Also my check engine lights on, Im just curious how to check what code it is so I can figure out what the hell the problem is...

what do you mean your taillights work, but your brake lights don't. clarify.

do you mean, when you step on the brakes, nothing lights up, or are you talking about the high mount brake light?

you know when you turn on your head lights your "tail lights" turn on as well.. well all thats fine and dandy but when I apply the brakes it doesnt light up brighter like it should and the brake light in the window doesnt light up either. The brake lights dont work at all so my guess is its some type of fuse somewhere thats burnt but I checked the one in the engine

To check the engine code for 92-up civics locate a plug on the passenger side upper right corner near where the ECU is, stick in a paper clip or wire to connect the two points an the check engine light will flash, count the number of flashes, the light will flash then pause and then flash fast. I.e for a code 42 it will blink four times slowly then pause then blink twice quickly.

the plug at a brown plastic thing over it as I recall.

the brake light fuse should be under your drivers side panel(under steering wheel) open the fuse cover and there should be a fuse diagram on the back of it. check that.

if that fuse is good (stated above) it could be the brake lamp switch on the brake pedal. take it off and ohm test it.
