Re: 2000 Honda Civic CX with 24,000 miles!
when i think of a 13 year old car with only 24k, i think of how long that car sat, and how long that car sat with all those fluids in hoses.... i would definitely drain the coolant, and possibly replace those hoses.... i bought a mazda with low miles, and i ended up blowing a head gasket because the coolant sat in the hoses so long it started to derteriorated the rubber...

Wow man. It's in amazing condition on the outside visually. Reminds me of when my 2000 Ex coupe only had 12 miles on it when I drove it for the first time.

I've seen wayyyyyyy more problems with low mileage cars then cars with 200k miles on them ....... and op I would recommend buffing the car because the paint doesn't look to great

I know what you mean. Seems like most forum members look at car with low miles and believe it's the best thing since slice bread. I'm more skeptical of a low mileage car than one with high miles.

You should see the paint in person, you'd be amazed. looks brand new for being 12 years old. I'm going to buff It tho, but I can only imagine if it's buffed lol

Re: 2000 Honda Civic CX with 24,000 miles!
This is what Im saying...............I mean I think its great for OP ---however personally Id rather have 240k then 24k with a car that old.
Sitting around is worse on a car then driving around day to day.
The other thing is....OP story makes me nervous. Why would the previous owner before trading the car change all fluids and things *if the car wasn't sitting in a garage for an extended period of time*
I worked at a dealer years ago, and we'd get 10+ year old cars in with super low mileage. We actually got a car that was 14 years old, that had 3,000 miles on it. -- They gave the car to the tech, he looked it over, and gave the sales department a bill for more then the car was worth. The owner of the car drove back and forth to church 2 miles round trip on sunday, and only in nice weather. During the fall / winter, the owner would walk. The car did nothing but sit in a garage. By the time it got to us, 11 years later there was a ton of things that would needing to be changed to make the car sell. The dealer took it in for 900 bucks. And had the wholesale guy pick it up 2 hours later.
Either way ---OP got a deal since honda cx's here in ny are selling for 4k that are barely running because of its gas mpg.
I just wouldnt want to deal with the issues that may arise because of all that time sitting in the garage. I d be afraid of the rubber stuff...timing belt the biggest, but also who knows how long the gas was sitting in the gas tank. Id be willing to bet the owner didn't drop the tank and drain the fuel, but then again maybe it didn't sit for extended periods of time....

i am envious.. i would def replace all fluids because as ozh said, it being 12 years old with only 24k on it, there's no telling how long it sat up. anyway, nice car.

Everyone says, oh low miles bad like high miles etc.
The bottom line with low miles, as long as it was maintained and driven regularly like a few times a week you will have no problems, it is the cars that sits for years without being setup for storage.

Short trips are just plain bad for a vehicle. You end up with a lot of sludge from short trips, batteries don't last because the vehicle isn't driven far enough to charge them.
