What do you mean by "long run"?
If you're going to turbo the B18C, then the of course that would have better gains.
I'd turbo the D16Y8, and later run Hondata and get it tuned.

Swap. It is going to leave you with more room to grow later down the line. And it is going to put you at about the same power that a mild FI set-up is going to get you to anyway.

in the long run? a swaps much better. dohc is the way to go.
but if you want to go fast "tomorrow", turbo the sucker. get probably around 170 whp with some decent torque numbers. as compared to the gsr's stock 143 whp, and not so friendly torque #'s.
but of course, there's not much room to grow with the sohc.
my $.02

turbo is faster than all motor, period.
you can build a sohc for more as much as a B series costs.
one cam is as good as two cams.
if u got money coming out of your ears however, by all means swap.

I've run a turbo'd D16Y8 since 2000 and if I could do it all over again, I'd have swapped do a B18C1. Thing was, when I put the turbo in, I only had 19K miles on the motor. I didn't see a whole lot of sense in yanking out a perfectly good motor at that point.
Having said that, I can *almost* hang w/ my buddy's C32, so hey, it's still fun!

I really think it depends on two things:
—What kind of budget you're on
—What kind of power you want
Give us those figures and we'll be able to help you better.
