2000 civic SI
My friend and I went to look at a car (2000 civic si) and we start the car and everything seems fine except it throws a CEL. We then try to go into vtec and it seemed like it engaged, but it would not go fast like 6k rpm. I assume the engine is in limp mode. The car had a header, intake, exhaust. Could it be the O2 sensor. Im not really sure what could put it into limp mode and if i should buy the car. Its a really good deal and the engine only had 82k miles on it. Any help is apreciated thanks..

not generally especially not a o2 code
by the way how do you have 1898 prelude?

its tight.
Well i dont think we are going to check for codes because the engine ran fine, so it cant be too hard to fix... The owner mentioned that he took it to honda for them to check the CEL and they said it was an O2 but the owner seems to be a top notch idiot.

drive down to autozone and have them check the CEL. they do it for free, then you know what is actually wrong with the car. if it won't rev past 5.5k, it's not going into VTEC, and something beyond an O2 sensor is wrong. when i was throwing O2 sensor codes, my car still revved and went into VTEC just fine.
