2000 Civic Power Outlet Popped Out!!
I have a 2000 Civic EX coupe 5-speed stick with a D16Y8 engine. I have an FM transmitter for my iPod (a lot cheaper than buying a new radio) so I can tune my radio to a set frequency and then hear my music through the car speakers. The part of the transmitter that goes into the power outlet has always been a little tight, but it was like that on my old 2000 CR-V. Also, the power outlet was a little loose in the socket, but I never really thought much of it....... until it popped out of the socket as I was pulling the FM transmitter out. It's still connected to the wires behind the dash, but I can't get it back in. It looks like there was a metal ring it went into, but I can't get it back in place.
Has anyone had this happen before? How can I get it back in place? I have a very good hunch that I have to tear the entire dash off just to fix it.....

Happened to me, just take out the center console and cup holder. Reach up and you should be able to get to it easily. The ring that holds it in place should be on the harness for the power outlet. Push it back in and tighten the ring.

on that console piece that the outlet is connected to, there is a screw on the drivers side close to the pedals and the passenger side, inside the glove box at the top, take those out. then, on the piece, there are 2 screws located at the top, right under the stereo console, take those out also. pull that plastic dash piece out from the dash, there should be a metal retaining ring that is threaded through the power wires for the outlet, that piece screws back on to the outlet. so all you need to do is remove the dash piece, put the outlet socket back in the hole, screw back on the metal retaining ring and bam! youre done.

Where are the screws that hold the center console and cup holders in? I've done this on my gf's EG, but my car is pretty different with the interior.

You have to Take off the arm rest, then the plastic around the shifter and the cup holder. Then once that's off you can see the screws that hold the cup holder

Nothing to do with cup holder.
You need to remove the left kick panel under the dash you will see the screws, then pull off.
Then open the glove box, look up in the left corner should be a screw, take that out.
then you will see the screws holding the center panel screws.
