2000 Civic hesitates/bucks intermitently on acceleration....
I posted a previous topic on this, then it was only in VTEC, now its doing it more.
The car initially pulled no codes, then one day a p1259 code (VTEC malfunction). The tech pulled the cam cover and found a little bit of metal (aluminum...looked like casting flash almost), couldnt find where it came from. All the rocker arms worked smoothly (didnt have the VTEC tester tool.....the little air pressure thing), no problems at all with the valvetrain. We tested the oil pressure and it is around 80 psi in VTEC at WOT, so no problem there. We replaced the entire VTEC solenoid with a new OEM part and cleared the code. Drove it, and for several days it was fine. Then here we go again.
I have new OEM fuel filter, cap and rotor, installed the factory plugs and new OEM plugs (ouch). Car is beginning to hesitate anytime now.
Heres the funny thing.
After driving for a while (say 15 minutes)....it runs more or less perfect.
?????? The plugs I pulled out were dirty and looked fouled (black and sooty).
Only thing I can think left to do is check fuel pressure, reset the timing back to stock (I think its advanced 2 degrees), maybe check the MAP and TPS? What about the o2 sensors? I was told they can cause a similar problem. I hate to just install new ones ($$$$) with no reason to.
I need help here guys. I have not checked compression, but I dont think I have a problem with that. I always run 93 octane and use Honda OEM oil. I currently have 10w30 installed, but that shouldnt matter.
Please drop me some advice.
I have a JRSC to install and obviously wont do it until I have this sorted.

Its been suggested to check my cooling system? What bearing does this have on the problem?

Now, was it your new plugs that were already all black? If that's the case, your car is running way too rich. I had a similar problem with my b16, was throwing no codes, and I switched out my primary o2 sensor and the problem was solved.

do you have a msd 6a or 6al. because that started happening to me when i installed my msd 6al. i took it to a few shops and they said everything was wired perfectly and i ended up just removing my msd.

No MSD, stock ignition. Hmm. I might try the oxygen sensor. Its been pulled in and out a few times and has gone through alot. The plugs were black and I installed new plugs. I dont know how they look right now.
I think I will replace the oxygen sensor.
Thanks, and keep the advice coming!

I used a PGM tester on the car today. I dont have an exact idea of the range that the b1s1 oxygen sensor should be in. i used the shop manual and did a basic check on it. looks ok, can it still be bad?
also i noted at WOT, the tps is only showing 90.9%. also timing is 16.5 degrees at the high side @ 700 rpms.
is this odd? i mean the tps? its not adjustable so does this mean i need to get a new throttle body? as the tps is integrated into it?
