Default 2000 Civic EX coupe Carpets

I have a 2000 Civic EX coupe 5-speed stick with aftermarket floor mats in the front and back. When I bought the car it didn't have floor mats in the front and my parents surprised me one day with new floor mats. The thing is that in the driver's side there's that black plastic square in the middle of the floor carpet and there's no little spikes on the bottom of the mats to keep it in place. As a result, the carpet slides forward and I get a little nervous about the clutch pedal catching on the mat and causing problems. I already had one of those moments briefly tonight and I REALLY don't want to crash. The only thing keeping the mat from creeping up the firewall is the footrest on the left of the clutch pedal.

My dad and I already tried using velcro, but the glue didn't adhere very well to the bottom of the mat.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Here's some pictures of what it looks like:

No. That isn't even a Honda accessory.

You can get legit Honda OEM carpets for $80, or some cheap rubber or cloth mats with spiked backs from Sears for $30-60.

Did you try applying a stronger adhesive to the velcro?

Thank you. I could get the OEM carpets, but I want that to be my last resort.

As for strong adhesive, I could try that. I just used what was on the backing of the velcro. Could I use epoxy or another really strong adhesive?

There was a recall for original honda floor mats. Bascially they retro fit a pin in the floor and a grommet in the floor mat to hold it. I would get the floor pin from honda install it, they give you a grommet to insert in the floor mat, you use a hammer and a block of wood.

You might have to buy it since you do not have original honda mats, if you have the original mats honda should do it for free.

That sounds pretty good! I've been looking at some pictures and it seems like the Civic should have had the hooks for the mats. Unless this car didn't come with them when it was new (seems a little ridiculous since it's an EX), but I don't see anything about floor mats being standard on this car....

You're right - that was a safety recall. I took my 98 Civic to the dealer a few months ago and they installed that grommet and "pin" for free. (yes, Honda floormats too).

Sounds good! I think I'll call my local dealer to see if they have the parts.

LOL, good luck trying to get the dealer to do it when u have cheap wal mart floor mats.

Common sense should tell you the dealer is not responsible for non OEM parts.

I was just going to see if they have the parts. Obviously they won't do it on non OEM parts.
