2000 Civic, D16Y5 w/ "P2P" ECU Problems
The vehicle is a 2000 Civic and I think it is an EX or DX trim (unmarked), but has parts from both trim levels. I will list below about the car:
- 2000 Civic, unknown factory trim level.
- Engine is D16y5.
- ECU is a "P2P", which is not correct for a D16y5.
- Has a catalytic converter which is located post-downpipe.
- Car uses two different keys for door and ignition.
- Had a code for 'knock-sensor' but there was none installed.
- Installed a knock sensor and noticed the wire harness is for a D16y8.
- Transmission is Automatic.
- Has ABS but the ABS light comes on.
- It is SOHC.
Basically, it looks like a EX car with a D16y5 thrown into it by a chop-shop or something. It belongs to a family member and is legal but has a messy carfox record.
The problem I have right now is the CEL has been on for years. Supposedly the code is for the catalytic converter. It will not pass emissions now, even if the code is cleared.
My concern is with the location of the catalytic converter. It looks like the entire exhaust system, including the manifold is meant for an "EX", but the engine is for a "DX". I am not sure if maybe there is an issue with O2 sensors before and after the catalytic converter, or is the issue with the catalytic converter being the wrong one for a D16y5, or should I match the exhaust to the "P2P ECU, or what...
Beyond replacing the engine, how should I fix this issue with all these different parts from the DX and EX?

Re: 2000 Civic, D16Y5 w/ "P2P" ECU Problems
Unfortunately, my dad took it to Autozone to have the code pulled. Whenever he cannot figure something out, he brings it to me. The info he brought me is the code is for the catalytic converter, which is way too vague. Sorry about that. I will see if I can buy a cheap OBD code reader for $60 (saw one at Autozone).
Today, I did the following:
- New NGK V spark plugs.
- New distributor cap.
- New ignition rotor.
- Cleaner air filter (cleanable aftermarket).
Parts I have waiting to install today or soon:
- Fuel filter.
- PCV valve.
- Oil and filter.
Solenoid / Distributor Oil Leak:
Also, it has an oil leak that looks like it is coming from a solenoid on the back of the cylinder head. Dare I say it is a VTEC solenoid? Anyway, I replaced the gasket and screen for it and the distributor O-ring about 2 years ago. Now I see oil there again.
Breather Oil Leak:
Also, I want to replace the breather O-ring and I have a PCV valve to put in. I think the breather is leaking oil out, and a lot of it. Should I attack the breather from the top or bottom? Does the intake manifold need to come off? Is this even something I should be doing for an oil leak?
Thanks.

Re: 2000 Civic, D16Y5 w/ "P2P" ECU Problems
I had a family emergency so I just got back to work on this evening.
Ya know that thing I've been calling a "catalytic converter"? It's not a catalytic converter, it's a test pipe. Some nitwit jipped the car and probably recycled the cat for it's precious metals.
Man the cats are not cheap for this car. The O2 sensor sits right in the middle of it. Is that right? Any deals out there right now?
