2.5" exhaust on stock VX? lookin for opinions
here it is: g/f's stock vx hatch with N1 stlye muffler on back
somthing is rattling from inside the resonator, very annoying. needs to be fixed, but dont want to put much money in it
i have a crush bent 2 1/2 inch exhaust from another hatch that im not using.
would it be ok to put 2 1/2 inch crush bent(not a tru 2 1/2) on a stock vx motor and exhaust manifold? loss of power? sound nasty?
whats your opinions? the vx has a puny 1.5 vtec

it wont bolt up correctly at the front. the vx cat is in the manifold so the overall lenght of the stock exhaust from the end of downpipe to the tailpipe is longer on the vx. the way to fix it is by getting any other obd1 cat converter. i have 2.25" on mine w/ a header, w/ a chipped ecu to get rid of lean burn and wide band (still run 12valve and 16valve just no lean burn), and honestly its not that loud, just very raspy, all depends on the muffler in my opinion.

Re: (schardbody)
yeah i know about the length diff. i have to hack the 2.5 no matter what but i got a MIG welder.
what is this you speak of 12 valves and lean burn? not too familiar with the Z1
will it sound bad? or will i loose power?

its called vtec-e e is for ecomomy. its crazy stuff, research it a bit, you will be amazed. basically under 2800rpm or so the motor runs off 12 valves, two exhaust and one intake, then engages the other intake valve after 2800rpm for regular 16valve operation. while in 12valve mode the ecu reads load and tps voltage and has the ability to scale fuel down to 24:1 air fuel ratios, giving excellent MPG. if you have driven the car you have felt it go in and out of lean burn. say you are cruising at 2500rpm and hit the gas a little you feel it hesitate a little, thats the crossover from lean burn.
as for power, i wouldnt say i lost any w/ the exhaust, more w/ the header, so keep the stock manifold as long as you can. and w/ sound, mine actually sounded really good w/ the stock manifold as well, but w/ the header and exhaust it is pretty loud and raspy, ricer-ish if you will.

Re: (schardbody)
wow. excellent info. ive heard of vtec-e, but i didnt know it was like that. mad respect. i have figured out what the mysterious vx spudder is. thanks
i plan on keeping the exhaust manifold til i go turbo on my crx. she cant afford much right now, but when something messes up i try to upgrade it when i fix it. i.e exhaust, wheels, susp

I will tell you now, the best sounding exhaust on a Honda that I've heard in person was my 2, maybe 2 1/4 inch exhaust to N1 style muffler straight from the VX cat converter with I think a 12 inch resonator on the straight part of the b-pipe . Oh so deep sound from a VX motor, almost VW 1.8t sounding .
As for the sputtering, trying replace all the engine bay grounds and check the thermostat ground, should help.

the rattling noise i;ve had for a while, its the cat disintegrating slowly, the pieces get trapped in the rosonater and well, resonate...i take my exhaust off every month or so and take the crap out and reinstall
