2" exhaust piping or 2.5"? Which is better for an ls motor?
I am in the market of getting a custom made exhaust piping at a shop, my question is should I go 2" str8 pipe or 2.5"? I will have DC Sports 4-1 headers str8 pipe to either my current Magnaflow exhaust(looks stock) or and aftermarket exhaust. BTW it's for a 00ls motor, some internal work, and probally stayin NA.

i have 2.5 on my civic with a d16 it sounds great i would suggest going with the 2.5 but thats just my opinion, it should allow for better flow with less back pressure anything bigger than 2.5 would be to big unless your planning on going turbo

did it make your car mad fast?
that big on a "stock" d16 will lose power.

lol, that's for real. Get a 2.25". Great midpoint for sound and power on an N/A engine (not that it really gives you much). Go with 2.25", then get a nice tasteful muffler, ie: not a TURBO APEX'i N1. You're gonna want some backpressure, or, like the guy said before me, you'll LOSE power.

no you dont. you want zero backpressure. you want to keep exhaust velocity's high. two different things.

2.5'' is good because it allows you room for bigger mods in the future
no

Back pressure is bad, but larger pipes don't necessarily mean less back pressure. It is very possible to have exhaust pipes that are too large. I do not know what too large for a civic is.
Exhaust moving through the pipes helps pull exhaust from the cylinders. Called "Scavenging". Like siphoning gas from your tank, the gas moving through the tube creates a vacuum that pulls more gas from the tank. Like the siphon, the exhaust moving through the pipe creates vacuum which pulls (scavenges)all of the exhaust from the cylinders (more than the exhaust stroke on its own) and can also aid in pulling fuel air mix into the cylinders.
Pushing exhaust gasses into a pipe that is too large can also cause the exhast to slow down and cool off before it exits the system. Cool air is dense air and is harder to move, which creates back pressure.

Hmm, good point.

my 00 si ran better 1/4mile times with stock exhaust than a 2.5 exhaust. The bigger exhaust just made it fall on its face like it lost a little power

If you're doing internal work you will want a 2.5. Also if it's custom make sure it's not crush bent, you want mandrel bent.
