1999 honda civic speedo problems
My speed sensor on my 1999 honda civic DX hatchback b20z2 with 5spd. doesnt work. I recently replaced my crank and all bottom end bearings. I made sure I put everything back together correctly and have double checked to make sure all the sensors are back in. I broke one of the pins on the speed sensor so I got a brand new one(matsushita) and it still doesnt work. All the other gauges work, there are absolutely no blown fuses, in cab or in engine bay.
Im lost on whats wrong. When I first tried starting it, it would only click the starter solenoid. I fiddled with the wiring, didnt do anything but all of a sudden it wouldnt do anything except the cooling fan would turn on when the key was to start.(so the starting problem got WORSE) After some more fiddling, I jumped the starter but it just shorted out and thats when it stopped clicking and the cooling fans would run.
I let it sit while I worked and came home and tried again. It decided it would agree to turn over. it runs great, 60000 miles on it. All the connections I can possibly get to are tight. The terminals on the starter are tight, I dont understand whats going on with the speedo. I dont think the starting problem is related to the speedo problem.
Does anyone have a suggestions to what I can do or check? Like I said, Im lost. Speedo dial doesnt EVER move. Maybe theres loose connections?

Re: 1999 honda civic speedo problems
check to see if your getting power at the vss plug you can jump the 12v and ground wire with a test light. i had a problem in a eg where the spedo jumped around and inside the plug was coroded. but if its not doing anything sounds like its not getting power to the vss. also make sure you got the right one.

Thanks for getting back so quick,
I just went out and checked them....i have one as a ground, one is 5v(vehicle reference) and then the 12 volt signal.
so...either the sensors bad or the clusters bad..not the wiring right?
