1999 Honda Civic EJ8 RHD CTR Build / Progress Thread!!
Disclaimer: This thread is for my personal record as well as your viewing. I like to stay organized with my build and I will update the page regularly. If was to ever show someone my build in depth, I'd refer them to this page.
car: 1999 Honda Civic EJ8
Plans:
RHD EK9 front clip
EK9 Firewall
EK9 radiator support
EK9 front bumper
EK9 Front lip
EK9 Grill
EK9 Fenders
EK9 Headlights
EK9 sideskirts
EK9 mirrors
EK9 Hood
EK9 Dash and steering wheel
EK9 Front and rear 5 lug
EK9 Front and rear brakes
Basically my goal with this car is to get it as closely matched to the ek9 civic type r hatchback as possible, in a unique and very tasteful way. I love the ek9 Ctr hatchback and I've always loved the em1 body style. I opt for a coupe, but I won't settle when it comes to the appearance. A full championship white respray, a RHD conversion, along with the built b18c jdm 2.?+L turbo motor is in the midst. Interior from the doors forward will replicate a civic type r hatchback, and from the doors back to the trunk, extended red carpet all the way back, and a 6, maybe 8 point roll cage, surrounding two red Recaro buckets outfitted with takata harnesses. Crazy and far fetched? Maybe... But with a recent 5 year suspension on my license and a love for building unique civics, why the hell not!
If you have any comments questions concerns or ideas please feel free to share!
Current engine setup:
JDM B18c GSR
5 angle valve job
Port and polish head
New oem Honda internals
Unknown block guard
85mm bore
Cp Pistons 9:1
Eagle rods
Arp head studs
Cosmetic head gasket
New oem Honda seals and gaskets
Transmission is still under debate (what's best transmission for the motor)
Turbo and kit still under debate (any ideas, Garrett? Precision?)
Axels, mounts, clutch, flywheel, brake line tuck, wire tuck, and battery relocate will all come later. I plan on having a lot of time to build this, so time and money is not a factor. I want the best of the best. I have a background in mechanics, and local friends have come to me to build and repair their 6th gen Hondas. It's a passion, a love for the style, it's a way of life. #jdm

Type R transmission, especially with the power levels you'll be wanting to make. The LSD will be your new best friend. Barring that, a GSR or SI transmission with an MFactory helical LSD would also be a good option. Specifics will depend on your intended use. Precision turbos are ****. Garrett is great. STC is great. Exactly which turbo, again, will depend on power goals and intended use. Your "2.+ L" idea isn't really viable. Stick to 1.8L. Forged internals. AEBS or Darton MID sleeves, installed professionally by a reputable shop. Go higher for your CR. 10.5:1, 11.5:1 if you have 93 or E85 available. Eagle rods are a no-brainer, but if price really is no object, Pauter X beams are the ****.

Also, please realize what all is involved in the safety hardware of your car. It's an all-or-nothing kind of thing. Either you need to stick with the complete OEM safety hardware (which includes airbags, stock seat belts, and no roll cage), or complete "track" safety hardware, which means no airbags, properly fitted harnesses, fixed buckets, roll cage, and a helmet. Unless you enjoy the thought of your skull slamming into a fixed steel tube, roll cage necessitates helmet. Driving to and from work, wearing a helmet. Going to the bank, helmet. Going out to dinner, helmet. Picking up your date? Hope you have a helmet for her, too.

Make sure you properly know what you're getting yourself into before you dive face first in.

Just fyi, hope we're not here to discuss personal life.
I've have seen some japanese decorate there rides kinda...not my style but hey its there ride and I respect that. OP all you're doing to your coupe is nothing new so don't take some of the comments the wrong way, just hope you finish the build.

Been there done that. I did my five years of HTO revocation/suspension in FL too (long ago). Good excuse to get real deep into cycling, ended up being one of the best things that ever happened to me.
Interested to see what comes of this build, if you do it clean and tasteful it should be nice. Don't sweat the "different" part though. It's not important anyway.

Well....no license...can't drive around (probably will anyways) so no transportation to job other that public transportation. GL though, there have been some builds were members just started slowly and overtime they were able to make progress. Give the guy some time to collect parts.
No NAR not you, I was mostly referring to someone's "college" build.

Here is what the car looked like before the accident, sitting pretty next to my buddies, RHD eg6!
RHD EG6 & EJ8
And here is the heartbreak,
Motor was fine, drove the car home with only damage to the radiator and radiator core support... Oh well, time to rip it off and take out the b20b nesting beneath.
Removed radiator core support.
Remove head,
Remove block and tranny,
Clean up the bay, and really get her naked...
So, after refurbishing the b20b and selling it, I took a ride down to the engine builder to see how my b18c is coming along...
Fresh block guard, And bore, it's over 2.0l ill post specs later.
CP Pistons 9.1 cr
5 angle valve job and port and polished head
Eagle manufacturing rods
Crankshaft stock
The next update hopefully I can start piecing together the new Ctr front and rear suspension and source a RHD Clip of 99-00 Civic type r. Any suggestions? Also going to post pics of the twin b20bs I refurbished..

Re: 1999 Honda Civic EJ8 RHD CTR Build / Progress Thread!!
To be honest, I bought the motor with the block guard, and didn't have money to get forged sleeves.. Although I would have preferred sleeves, I'm not tracking this car, it's a street car for show. I kept the 9:1 cr because I am going to boost it.. No reason upping the car if I'm not goaling over 500hp.

Low CR is the old fashioned way of doing boost. It's wrong. There is absolutely no reason to lower CR for boost in the 21st century. Block guards are as likely to create hot spots and cracking, causing premature failure, as they are to actually help.
