Default 1999 Honda Civic DX Tac

As you might already know, these cars don't come with a Tac. However, I have one from an older Honda and one from a boat. I was wondering if there was any way I could connect either of them to the computer and set it on my dash? Thank you.

Just buy a EX and plug it in. Easiest mod ever.

That's a good idea actually. Though, I don't have much experience with this sort of thing and I don't really want to deal with the odo. Do you have any other suggestions?

I just put mine in without worrying about the odo, found one within 6k of mine. Cars are exempt in this state from ODO readings after 10 yrs anyway. I do know a guy that will custom set it for you and send you a unit for just a little more. If you want you can just buy the tach and fuel/temp heads separately and put them in your cluster. The cost is the same or more and you might cause issues...

Oh ok, so I would just have to mention that the odometer is wrong on the registration then? I'll check my state laws to see if it's the same case with me. If I bought one from the guy you know, would I still have to mention the odo? The last thing I want to do is cause problems with my car. I guess the only thing preventing me from following your suggestion is that I don't know the complexity of installing a new cluster, especially one from a different model.

Yeah, I don't know if other states laws/policies are the same.

If you wanted the cluster with the odo set the actual to shown mileage would only be a off a few miles by the time you got it installed. I don't think that would be an issue anywhere. You could mention it if you ever sold it if you like. I wouldn't mention it to the DMV just because you might get the bureaucrat with *****-itis.

It's just 2 screws and 2 clips for the bezel and 2 screws and 2 clips for the cluster, 2 or 3 plugs on the back depending on whether you have auto or manual trans and then put everything back. There are actually several vids on youtube.

You could do this too but you seem apprehensive about taking the cluster apart.

changing a cluster is a few screws and patience.

if you are only mildly retarded and own a screwdriver you should be ok.

taking the cluster apart is super easy. remove the clear cover, the black bezel, then there's like 4 screws on the back that hold the speedo head. reverse, done.

That's probably what I'll do then, I'm more into carpentry and those skills are usually useless when it comes to cars. I'll take a look at those videos and see what happens. Thanks for your help.
