1999 Civic LX - Automatic Transmission shifts hard or won't shift at all
Hi all, I have a Civic LX, 99 with a 4 speed auto tranny. Got the D16Y7 NON-V-Tec motor in it.
Im having a little problem, recently it shifts hard and sometimes it doesnt like to shift at all until i let off the gas a little bit or floor the gas for a little amount of time. It never used to shift hard and used to shift fine at normal RPM.
The car has 106k miles on it and its all stock.
The fluids have always been maintained, oil change at 3-4k miles at a shop.
I checked the tranny fluid and it is fine in color and is to a safe level.
Someone told me to have a tranny flush done, but im afriad because someone else told me that sometimes if you havent had a tranny flush that you can cause more damage to the tranny than if u leave it, i never dont a tranny flush in my car.
What do you guys think?
I drive the car prolly about 120 miles a day.

Does the CEL work or did you check with a code reader?
If there are no CEL codes, start by draining and refilling the transmission three times, with a short drive in between. Use only Honda or Honda-recommended ATF.

Re: 1999 Civic LX - Automatic Transmission shifts hard or won't shift at all
I was looking at some searches and found that flush out some tranny fluid and also replace the Linear shift solenoid also. Here is the article. WHere is this solenoid located and can i do this or should i take it to the shop?
Im getting all of these symptoms, shifting harsly and sticking in first gear sometimes.

SYMPTOM:
The transmission shifts harshly, or it may stay in first gear. The MIL may be on with DTC P0730 or P0715 stored.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
Contamination of the linear solenoid and its associated passages inside the transmission.
VEHICLES AFFECTED:
1996-99 Civic - All with A/T (except HX with CVT)

In warranty:
The normal warranty applies.
Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
You know what I would do? If you car falls inside the affected VIN numbers, I'd try it. If it works you saved yourself the cost of another transmission. If it doesn't work, well you rolled the dice and came up snake eyes.
FIY a Linear Solenoid is $142.55.
