1999 civic ex? vtec or no go?
My friend with a 1999 civic ex with a d16y8 is saying he has Vtec? I thought this wasnt true for the longest time. Whats goin on? can someone point him in the right direction?? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

It does have VTEC. It's a SOHC VTEC engine. VTEC on that engine though is more for economy than performance. Nonetheless, he has it.

yes sir they have vtec all 96-00 ex's come with vtec stock and its all the same motor d16y8

Another way you can tell if the motor has VTEC, is if the spark plug wires (cylindars) are on the bottom of the valve cover.

Que? The valve covers (and subsequently, spark plug holes) are identical for all D series motors from 96-00. That's why they no longer say VTEC on the EX models. On a VTEC equipped car, there will be a brass colored solenoid cylinder on the back left hand corner of the engine, behind the dizzy. |
