Default 1998 (OBD2A) honda hatchback CX:d16y5 swap questions

I just picked up a '97 (obd2a) d16y5 from a scrap yard with 180psi compression all the way across, complete engine harness, ecu (hx)and trans. If I pull the old engine harness including the ecu potion inside the car, will the HX harness work on the car? Are the interior harnesses of the CX and the HX the same? The only plug of the Engine harness that will be used is the drivers side shock tower plug correct?

I just would like to make sure that installing the engine in the hatchback will work and not be a waste of time. I have the 5 wire oxygen sensor and complete intake manifold off an HX also.

I was thinking about installing a Civic VX transmission also for maximum fuel mileage and getting a scan gauge or MPG guino in the future if everything goes as planned.

Thank you in advance.

Use the harness that came with the car, HX civics I think were OBD2A, you may want to research that though.

HX was obd2a all the way to 2000 for 5spd, HX was obd2a from 96-98 for cvt and obd2b for 99-00 for the cvt.

If you're saying this civic you're swapping in is indeed obd2a than it should be complete plug and play.

Sounds like you're in good shape for the swap.

yep, with all the wiring, correct ecu, motor and trans sounds like youve got a plug and play setup. don't swap the transmission unless you plan to retune. 92-95 cx trans is also very good for mpg

How'd this turn out for you? Ive been curious about this type of swap for some time. I hope to hear a significant MPG increase with a D16Y5 into a 92-95 hatch.

Stick with a D15Z1, less wiring headaches
