1998 Honda Civic and whining sound in driver side...
Had my Honda recently worked on by shop to replace leaking OEM water pump - OEM pump, tensioner and belt were replaced less than 10K miles ago, about 1.5 years based on how little I drive it. Anyways, after they replaced the pump, I had not driven the vehicle for several weeks, as I have other cars, and try to drive each for about a week or so and then swap out, so they don't sit long... when I went to drive the Honda, I noticed a whining sound (almost like a metallic bell ringing/whine sound) coming from the driver side of block. I removed all the drive belts and the noise continued, you can only hear it once vehicle is warmed up and idling.
Called shop and they told me to bring it back in. Just got it back yesterday and they indicated that the timing belt was too tight and they loosened it. Got it home and it still makes the sound. I wonder if the tensioner has crapped out. I guess I take it back, but what should I say to them? Thanks.

They were actually pretty cool about it and said they would look into the problem. Definately coming from the driver side engine. I told them while I had the car there could they do a front end alignment, as I forgot to ask last time. They said sure, I asked how much, they said 85... then said, don't worry about it... so at least they stand behind their work!!
