Default 1998 Civic Type-R

Well.. Some may say i'm stupid. But If you kept an eye out on the h-t marketplace a while ago this car was for sale then parted. Its only missing the drivetrain, recaro's and 5lug, so i traded my 93 turbo ls/vtec hatch for it.
My hatch was in the middle of a headgasket change too so it made it more even.

But yes its a true 1998 CTR, its going to be re-built, with 5 lug and i'm thinking of going with either a turbo setup or built NA. Its un-registered.. so it'll be hard as heck and expencive to register.. if i can figure it out.. hopefully things go well.

Good Chassis....it's np to drop an engine tranny in there, i'd go 1.8L if i were you personally, but stay N/A imo

Before you go investing a lot of $$ into the ride, find out "exactly" what is involved to register that car.....make sure it can be done!!!!

When i traded for it i didnt expect anything to be cheap, I can live with spending quite a bit on registering, its totaly worth it to save it from being completely parted. Thanks for the positive comments on it! I'm thinking of sticking with a usdm motor to make registration easier.. I was honestly thinking a Sleved B20 Vtec all motor high compression build.. but I'm having trouble imagining going with anything but type-r parts.. I'm considering a B18c5 to keep it usdm and type-r.. pricy but worth it to keep it semi-origional i'm thinking. Opinions on motor options?

Oh and thanks for the pictures for encouragement, all last night i was drooling over pictures of ek9's hah, here are some pictures i found from the previous owner of when he got it.. it had mugen mf10's and spoon brakes..

Yeah man, I would stay B16B 4 sho. That's what makes that car! Not a very common engine

meh on the b16b, no torque, the last couple i had sure didn't have much grunt. Go with the bigger stronger engine. My EM1 has a B18C5 waiting for it, i can't wait to get rid of my 1.6L no torque motor

The B18C5 is only 17 ft.lb. more tq than the B16B, shouldn't b hard to make that up with a bolt on or 2.

LOL, "only"

I don't think you get it, we are talking about torque here, not hp! Torque is hard to get out of small engines, especially out of B16A and B16B engines, it would take more than a couple bolt on's. Also, you should realize the biggest advantage of torque, is having it at lower rpm......bing, that's right, the b16 engines will NEVER have that unless they are running boost of some type.

My last high comp B20 setup was for the lack of a better word, awesome!! Right off of idle, it had put you back in your seat power, in fact any more than half throttle an ANY speed in 2st gear, and i was smoking tires.

Hmmm, looks like personal experience beat just an opinion about something you read about somewhere on the internet with out realizing about how actual powerbands work, not just peak numbers.

those are OEM bro...meaning, they came with the car as he bought it, because that's how it came from factory

Well there is a BIG difference between the B16A and the B16B and yes torque is nice but not always great in some cases. If I hooked up while u was spinning from ur torque then u would have to catch me and u may not b able to so who just won that race.

I know what the differences are between b16a and b, i've had 3 of each personally.

As far as traction goes, that is just a matter of driving. Any fool knows that if you can spin off the line, you take it easy on the gas a bit, then give her. My last b20Z build made more power and outperformed the all mighty B16B....it made about 10hp less and 30 ft lbs tq more

Well I just like the engineering behind the B16B and I think it is an awesome engine especially in the CTR where it belongs.
