1998 Civic Motor Squeaking Noise
My motor squeaks like crazy. My car has 96,000 miles on it. It gets worse when I turn the headlights on and the AC. So, it's probably the alternator or the belt. Right? Or could it be something else? Should I replace the belts or just get some belt dressing to put on them? My friend has a Civic w/ almost 200,000 miles on it and he has never replaced his belts and his motor doesn't squeak as much as mine.. so I think replacing the belts might be a waste and it could be something else. What do you guys think?

You probably just need to tighten up the belts. There are screws that you can tighten or loosen that will make the belts more snug on the pullleys. Just look around and you should be able to figure it out. If you see alot of cracks on the belts it might be worth it just to replace all the belts anyway though.

had that prob too...especially when it was wet outside and what not...just oil the belts and what not too...always helped mine.

It's your belts. But why hasn't your friend replaced any of his yet? Mine get replaced when the timing belt & water pump are changed, so I am on my third set of belts now.
Btw... have you changed your timing belt & water pump yet? You mentioned that your car has 96K miles on it...

Yeah, I changed my timing belt and water pump already at like 70K or something. How much should I expect to pay someone to replace all my belts? I don't think I want to mess with it myself.

I don't know about the pricing. Next time you change your timing belt though, go ahead and change the rest of them. I just had my timing belt done last week. It was early at 84K miles, but since I just starting auto-xing in my car, I thought it wise to do it early. The old timing belt looked in great shape. Also I was getting that occasional squeal when the a/c kicked in and it was making me crazy. Six thousand miles with that noise was too long to deal with. lol
