Default 1997 head unit install

I am attepmting to install aftermarket JVC head unit in 1997 civic. I know i need to keep the factory unit somewhere in the car and hooked up so that keyless entry and the dome light still work. Anyone that has pics or tips on how to go about doing this i would appriciate your input. thanks.

You have to keep the factory unit for the other stuff to work?

I never knew the stock radio controls the dome light and keyless entry.

Place new radio in, throw old one out...what I always did.

Yup, in order for the keyless to work with the 96-98s you have to keep it. Try hiding it behind where the new radio will go back in that little hole. That's the best advice I can give you.

Actually when I bought my civic I found the radio stuffed back in there...

I yanked it out and just jumped the wires together and viola no problems

I also did this to a friends civic. But I can't remember the colors of them... And I am too lazy to go pull my font dash paneling off

I bought a special harness at the car stereo store where I live. Only thing is that it does have to be behind the dash somewhere, mine is behind the cupolders.
