Re: 1997 Ek hatch strut bar installation in trunk: Where cut the plastic?
I am doing the same thing with my Ek9. I have not done it yet, because I don't have any free time on my hands yet. There is a thread on EK9.org where this guy is detailing step by step. Sorry, I can't remember the exact post, your just gonna have to search.
But if you want, this is what I am going to do. Take the inside panels off. Install ONLY THE BRACKETS the the shocks, leaving the actual tower bar off. Paint tip of brackets white, then put the panels back on before the paint drys. If the brackets are too far away from the panels, take off rear speaker covers and mark the inside of the panels with a magic marker. This will give you a rough estimate of where to drill. Then get a drill and get a 3 inch Hole Saw . Measure twice cut once. Then use a piece of vinyl trim to make the hole look nice and neat.
Where you are going to cut is dependant on the type of bar you have. Some are talller than others. So what may work for some may not work for you. Sorry, but your just gonna have to figure it out using my method.

Iv been trying to decide the best way to do this too. In a DB8 but the problem is the same. Was thinking about having just a brace bracket on one side and the interior plastic on the other. Then find some point (like a random bolt, seam or something) that is the same on both sides. Measure height & distance to that point from the bracket. Then measure the same on other side, from the bolt/seam back to the plastic, should show you where to cut. << Hope that makes sense.
Not sure in EKs have the fuel filler or somethin round there but will only work if both sides are the same shape!
