Default 1997 d16y8 head options / thorttle body..

what is the best head-swap option for a d16y8, or it is even worth it...?
i'm a noob, so a stupid question: can a sohc v-tec be converted to dohc v-tec from a head-swap? (i'm guessing not).

also - has anyone switched out for a hi-perf 62mm throttle body on this engine...? if so - what perf gains did you notice, if any?

thanks!

hope you all had a good weekend.

Leave everything as is.

You won't gain from a head swap. The only other real option would be a z6 head but that would be completely pointless.

No the DOHC heads WILL NOT fit on the D series.

Without other supporting mods an upgraded TB will not do anything for you.

And yes I had a good weekend. Thanks.

ya there is no point in a bigger TB unless you bore out the intake manifold plenum to be able to support the bigger TB. And the real power gains are on boosted cars anyway.

^^^THAT^^^

y8 or z6 are the best single cam vtec heads you can get. They're a little different, but very comparable to each other, and it's a tossup as to which one's better, so definitely stick with the y8. It's not worth the money to swap a z6.

And no, B series and D series are not compatible, which means you can't put DOHC B series parts on SOHC D series engines.

the dohc zc is NON-Vtec for sure, thats a negative...wont work. have you already done the simple bolt ons? header, exhaust, cold air intake. if you have you could do a cam, valves, and some better valve springs/retainers.. thats what im doin, ive got a y5 bottem end and y8 topend, now im building the head up a bit. i got the crower cam stage1

i was looking at the cower cams earlier this week....did you notice any significant improvements once you got the stage one in?

or did you need a re-tune before you noticed a significant improvement...?

z6 head is better than the Y8 head for boost. It flows a bit better and it has a bigger combustion chamber so it doesnt have as many issues with detonation.

would it really be worth the money to swap a y8 for z6 head though? ive got my turbo build coming along, and being tight on my budget it isnt really a question for me...just wondering

um. well it depends on how many miles are on ur y8 head. And how cheap u can find a Z6 head for. But the head is the only thing u want. The Y8 manifold is the best flowing mani. So you want to keep that. Z6 heads are better for boost, but honestly if u have to go out of ur way to get a Z6 head dnt worry about it. the Y8 head isnt super bad for boost, its fine, just not as great as the Z6 one.
