Default 1997 civic tranny swap???

Ok Ive been outta the game for a long time so best to ask for help . I just got a 1997 Civic dx from a family member for my daughter who just turned 16. The trans is toast . I have a 1993 dx tranny sitting in the corner with 54000 on it from a swap I helped my friend with years ago. Will it work in/with the newer civic ? I took a real good look at the 2 trannys and theyre are a lot of differences . Sensors. no linear sensor. only 1 speed sensor on the tail of the 1993 tranny. They look to bolt up the same but after that they seem to be very different . If this wont work what trannys will work ? I don't want to get into a big project just something that is a bolt in situation . Thanks everyone .

Sorry I should have mentioned I did search and read that post . It answers some of my question like yes it will bolt up , but Im wondering if it can actually work correctly and how I go about doing it if it will. The second part is if it wont work what trannys can I use? Thanks for the info Im still searching here and the rest of the web .

With a manual trans 92-00 are basically interchangeable.

With an auto trans you have to stay within generation. 96-00 are electronically controlled and wont work in a 92-95 and vice versa.

You need a 96-00 trans if it's an auto.

Not just a 96-00 transmission, but also a 96-00 transmission that matches the trim. A DX automatic will not work in an EX, and vice versa.

True...it's actually dependant on the ecu, tranmission and engine. With an auto trans. they all have to match with the OP's chassis.

I was more answering the generic question of a 92-95 auto trans. in a 96-00 chassis the OP asked about.
