1997 Civic Power Door lock problem
My driver's door actuator went bad, (grinding noises) so I replaced it. Now, the door locks don't work properly. On "lock" the driver's door doesn't lock, on "unlock" the driver's door won't unlock. Same problem with remote entry. Other doors will lock but not unlock when driver's door power lock is pressed. If I unplug the actuator, the other doors work fine. I plug it in, none of the door locks work.
Is there something to program? Any help would be much appreciated.

You replaced the actuator with what? Trying to understand what could have gone wrong if you replaced like for like. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Did you use an oem part? should be plug and play.
Just to be straight, when you use the inside lock/unlock button what happens, nothing at all?

Re: 1997 Civic Power Door lock problem
Thanks, gentlemen.
Now you know my confusion and frustration. I pulled out the old and put in a new. It was not a Honda part, it was aftermarket from Advance Auto Parts, http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...hedFrom=header. It looks the same, fits the same.
I hooked it up and the door locks operated trying to unlock but would not stay unlocked, went right back to locked. If I hit unlock, the locks unlock then, immediately, return to locked. Same thing happens with the keyless remote. The doors will not unlock.
If I unhook the actuator, the other three doors operate fine with both the unlock/lock button in the car and with the keyless remote.
Thanks

Re: 1997 Civic Power Door lock problem
let the new actuator just hand not connected to the lock and try ...
this sounds like the actuator is not adjusted correct and when unlocking its not allowing it to travel full stroke and so resets back to lock

MRGRIM,
That's what it seems like. It doesn't un-lock fully. I can hold the lever down and then it will stay down (unlocked) but, on it's own, it doesn't operate properly. Maybe the actuator is defective. I thought it was something in the system. I'll pull it out and exchange it and see if that corrects the problem.
