1996 HX honda civic just bought!
I just bought a red 96' HX civic with 110400k on it. I consiter it to be in good condition. I made a list of stuff I want to do to it (not modding).
TO DO
--The guy did not have records of maintence so I plan on doing that.
--Replacing: oil, oil filter, power steering fluid, brake fluid, tranny fluid, flush/bleed coolent.
--I need to copy the key for a spare.
--check for intake leaks.
--maintain a detailed interior and get rid of carpet stains.
--I need new brake pads.
Also the read drum brakes are all rusted like most cars I have seen, should I eventualy get a brake conversion to help this? The inside of all the wheels are very dirty.
--I am going to take off the wheels and clean the brakes as much as possible with brake cleaner(mostly the front ones as they have some removable rust/grime on the disks)
--detail each wheel and wheelwell
exterior stuff:
--Clean the headlight inside and out (need maunal for this) and the same with the tail lights to make them really shine.
--detail the engine area.
I will search on how to do this correctly as I know it has been discussed already.
--I will replace the bushings with the shifter if needed.
--Clean the trunk and maybe remove the spare and jack.
--Also it needs new spark plugs and wires.
most likely go OEM with that.
--I will test the mpg as the gas is getting low.
--The interior light is not working well, need to be replaced/cleaned(dead bugs)
For the exterior there is a slim sliver and black sticker (I guess) that goes along the door on both sides that I would like to get rid of.
--Remove stripe sticker
--use crome polish to polish the emblems.
--a dealership sticker (same as stripe) that I would like to remove.
The face of the deck was stolen before I bought it, I was told that I should get the manual to figure out how to remove some of the interior parts to be able to unscrew the actual deck and see what brand it is. This is of course to know what kind of face I should buy.
--get a stereo deck face
--get a radar detector
--relocate battery
This list is somwhat for my self to check off. I will make a new thread for any new questions that will come up or one of these only if I cannot find a clear answer in the search.
DONE
--first wash
--detailed interior
--anti rain and fog stuff I put on the windshield.
--heltem maunal on order

I think my head is going to explode! All I saw was windex, don't use amonia glass cleaners if you have tinted windows. I know you are excited about your new car but try to pace yourself, nobody wants to read that much

Well, my main Question right now is: Where can I get the owners manual and the helms or chiltons manual(s)?
Will they show and tell me how to change fluids and what not? I have not had much luck with the search. Such as "interior detailing" came up with nothing. Also, is the HX coupe consitered EG+?

no that's the owners manual that comes in the glovebox when you buy a car. you want this guy here: http://www.helminc.com/helm/pr...G1C80
$70 but very worth it in the long run.

I edited the top for ease of read. Also I would like to know if the owners manual will give me anything that the helminc manual won't.

Re: (99si_)
no pictures, I don't own a a digital camera nor do I know how to get them on the computer. I could bug my brother's friend for his and figure it out. I just washed the car for the first time today. Used eagle one wet car wash. to that. I detailed the interior also, but I could not get any of the carpet stains out with blue coral shampoo. In the future I will take out the seats and remove the carpet to get powerwashed or somthing to get rid of the stains. I'll search more on that when I get past my other priorities. I added a few things on the bottom and cleaned things up on the first post. (you can tell I like to keep things clean )

Re: 1996 HX honda civic just bought! (mnbv)
I have a 97 hx and I bought it with 67,000 miles and now it has 144,000 on it. I have had it 5 years now and it has not let me down ever. I got a letter from honda stating they extended the emmissions warranty to 150,000 miles or 10 years and I just bought a truck so now I'm keeping the miles down. That warranty really helped me out, they replaced the o2 sensor in the exhaust manifold, next they cleaned the egr ports and last time the cel came on they had to install a $700 computer for me. And I never had to pay a penny. Honda gets a big from me. You should check and see if your is under the same warranty extensions as mine. This has been the best car I've ever owned and it has never broke down to leave me sitting as of yet.

Yea, maintainence is my top priority, I am getting the owners manual to make sure I am doing things at the right time etc, then use helms maunal to actually do things. Next up is looks such as polishing/waxing, detailing in general, destickering, a few other very minor things (0% rice). 2 weeks until the manuals come in.
