Default 1996 Honda Civic LX

I don't know exactly what the problem is with the car and I was hoping that one of you might be able to lean me towards an answer.

During the winter the car acts horribly, it really doesn't like the cold at all. I'll start it up, it idles fine and then it starts making this weird clicking noise. It'll go on for a couple seconds and stop, then a couple seconds later start right back up again. Sometimes it just makes the noise and sometimes it'll shut the car down completely.

The other day I had no problem, drove about 5 miles and then it started doing it, even when the temp gauge said it was warm. I can't find any information the problem, but I'm assuming it could be electrical, however I'm not sure at all.

Any help would be great.

Thank you

I just got an HD camcorder so I should be able to pick up up the audio real well with it.

I'm not sure how to get the codes.

Down by the ecu (passenger side floor) there is a clip, I think it's green. It looks like it should be plugged into something, but it's not. Take a paper clip or a bent wire and connect both sides of the clip. Turn your key to the on position and the check engine light will flash. If you search there is a codes list some where on h-t. I believe its long flashes (10's value) and short flash (1's value).

or just go to autozone and ask them to check codes on your car. they'll probably do it for free. or you can buy a code scanner from them and then return it for a full refund.

first things first is to make sure you even have codes. start car and see if check engine light stays lit. you can also visit the thread for CEL How-to.
