1996 Honda Civic EX Transmission Question
Put an engine and transmission in my son's Civic and it runs like a bat out of hell, the problem is that the auto transmission is perfect in all gears except D3 and D4, it will engage and go but has very little power, any ideas of what I should check first?

It's nothing caused by the ECU, I can assure you. He would've been getting a CEL. I would try looking at the torque converter.

Not that the converter couldn't be it but he would be much more likely to drop out the lower gears first. You can pop a stock P28 into a GSR and not get a cell right away. we kept them around the dealership for testing with known good parts, they will run damn near anything, just not well. The ECU choice is important. I had a guy come in that had a motor swapped by a shade tree. He had a VX and the mechanic popped in a D16Z6 and ran it on the VX ECU, no cells. the complaint was power..or lack there of. Doesn't it make more sense to look under a kick panel before pulling out a transmission? So, my question stands.
