Default 1996 coupe build

Hi there HT, ive had my 96 coupe for a bit now and has been good to me so i have finally decided to build it to where it should be. I have had a few other civics and teggys but this will be my first build everything has been a dd. This will still be a dd but id like to get it in great condition. so lets get it going!

1996 Civic coupe DX Automatic
Color-Red
Miles when bought-300,xxx
Bought for-450$
Condition when bought- everything was a little rough the engine needed replacement but the tranny could wait till more funds. The body has dents here and there with oxidized paint.

acura? lol

did some painting after the we installed the new engine which had 115,xxx

So i dont have any pics of the engine process which kinda sucks but i have a few pics of the tranny process

So as of now i have replacement d16 engine and tranny in but i have plans to swap in a gsr and unfortunately because of my current situation of 2 kids and my wife refusing to drive a stick lol i have to keep it auto. not happy but im taking anything i can get right now.

PLANS
B18c1 swap(Rebuild everything)
99-00 front end conversion
Si clone w/cluster, interior, tail lights, logos, etc.
Repaint or change color havent decided yet
swap from auto to manual
wire tucks
remove ac
Much more little things....

Later today i am going to check out a gsr with blown head gasket, il post pics if things go well, as well other pics of all the parts as they come.

So today i went a few towns over to check out a b18c1 with a blown head gasket, i ended up buying for 1000$. Everything seemed to be in nice condition.
It came out of a 2000 teg, the guy i bought it from swaped it out for a type r (jealous lol)

and upon returning home i had some packages waiting for me

99-00 bumper

fogs

So as the night progressed i started digging into the engine.
so far the following has been removed:
-valve cover
-dizzy
-throttle body
-exhaust manifold

After that i decided to call it a night and tomorrow will hopfully pull the head off and get more into it!

Hopefully there wasnt any damage from the blown head gasket....though you still over paid.
Whats with all the rattle canning? Do you think that looks good? Clean oem ftw!

What are your other plans with the car?

Sorry im new to the forum so dont exactly know how to put everyones quote in the same message lol so bare with me.

yeah i thought the acura emblem was kinda funny lol

Ive been digging in the engine theres little things wrong but for the most part im hoping everything will be ok, im posting pics up now so you can see, and as far as the rattle canning lol, i was just bored and i knew id be swaping the d16 out someday anyways

and thanks!

So now down to bussiness,
I planned on getting the head off yesterday but there were some setbacks and i didnt get it done till today. all the gaskets and parts have been removed and the cleaning process will start tomorrow along with finding money for some new parts.

Also wondering if i should try to get some type r internals for this, what do you guys thing? feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Now the rebuilding process will begin along with cleaning that bad boy down. il throw up some more pics of the car soon. gonna clean the interior again as well as getting rest of front end ready. thanks for looking!

Type r internals would be a nice, cheap, reliable, oem build. Does limit options for further upgrades down the road though.

Those cylinder walls are in rough shape. Get that block cleaned up and honed before you put anything in it.

What do you mean by limit? If you have time to answer this, What would be the pros and cons of keeping it gsr or going type r, internal wise.

Also as a side note I'm debating on a Color change for the car. Either thinking a dark grey or stay red. Still up in the air on that one

I've been thinking about it for a while, and I'd have to agree. Just way too common

I see cypress green more than I'd like too lol. If I can get my hands on some grabber blue that could very well be a option

So for updates sake, I've just been cleaning a lot lately that's why I haven't posted anything lately. I just ordered a obd2a 1998 civic ex vtec auto wire harness. Should arrive march 2nd and then I'm thinking about delooming it and rewiring. Also going to be taking the head to a machine shop to get some work done. Will post pics as parts come. Finally I'm going to be starting body work soon, pics will come with progress

its vtec not vtech and have you looked into puting a b series auto tranny in ? it will not bolt in and the tcu is not in the ecu like a d series so major wiring has to be done.

Thank you for the spell check professor. And im conferting to so manual, so yes im looked into the auto b series and already found out what I need to know. I made corrections to the first post that stated I was also coverting to stick but I must not have saved it my fault.

Either looking into gsr hydro or b16a2 tranny

Converting to manual is a really fun task....<-----joking
Did it to a 2000 cx hatch and was one of the hardest things I've ever done on a Honda.
I kinda miss having a gsr trans. For freeway's sake lol

Yeah jug ive read a bunch or how tos on the manual coversion an am super excited lol. But im about to cut the auto cable lines and weld a heat shield so no exhaust fumes or having to listen to the road while I drive then also have been working on installing the clutch.

Im working on removing the dash as well to get rid of the ac and plug up the hole from in on the fire wall gonna go with the larger radiator.
