1996 civic starting issue
Hi .
Great forum. I wonder if someone could help me out.
I just bought a 96 civic for my kids. Great little car,
but it seems to have a slight oddity to it.
When the car is has been sitting for a few hours
it will not start unless you put your seatbelt on.
If the car is running and you turn it off then try again it will start seatbelt or not.
I was just wondering if this is normal or not.
TIA

Hmm wow I've never heard of this kinda odd but funny, um it seems like some type of safety mecanizm to me, but for solving it I would take it to you local Honda dealer and see what they say. I would try to help you out with it more but I've never heard of this before

Thanks for the reply guys.
When we got the car a few weeks ago, my daughter tried to start it one morning and it would not start. Late that day I tried it and no go. I thought I heard a slight , but very low hum over my left shoulder. So I thought maybe I have to have my seat belt on. I put it on and voila, it started.

With no seatbelt on nothing happens, as if no connection at all.

Re: 1996 civic starting issue
wow. never heard of this problem before. as jrzy2nr said some could have a safety devise that made the driver use the seat belt to start the car. you should ask the previous owner what they did to it or have the dealer look at it
