1996 Civic si front end noises HELP
sup ive looked at and lubed alot in the front end today trying to eliminate some squeaking noises i have.
In the front end it seems if im inside the car and move the steering wheel slightly it squeaks.
certain turns i take the suspension squeaks a little. if i have the car off i go outside and push on the car to reanimate a bump in the road and it squeaks.
any1 know what i should check.lube/replace???

not lowered
and i dunno how many miles r on the shockls i bought the car last year and so far ive done:
msd removal and back to stock dizzy.
new map harness.
fuel pump
fuel guage
fuel sender unit
plugs
cap
waires
rotor
oils
tranny fluid
power steering is full.
doubt my shocks or struts r gone cause going over bumps when driving i dont hear anything.
i only hear sopmething when i turn my wheel a bit or if im going HELLA slow like ten i might hear a little squeak.
i assure you nothing is GONE or bad or broken.
it only appeared like a week ago. after a hard rainstorm

Re: 1996 Civic si front end noises HELP
that squeek whiole turning the wheel is steering related.
struts and shocks ARE NOT steering related. those are suspension related.
so...we have to understand what makes the squeek. normally it is metal to metal of a worn part. the only three metal to metal parts that could easilly wear that are related to steering are.....
upper balljoint, lower balljoint, outer tie-rod. thats it.
now if i am not mistaken those parts are sealed from the factory and dont have any zerk fittings to grease.. so what did you grease up? did you grease all three parts... total of 6 in the front end? which one did you miss... regrease that one and see if the sound changes. grease alone is not the cure but it will help with the noise. that part squeeking is really a bad part. it is worn and needs to be replaced. that worn part will push the new grease back out resulting in another squeek down the road.

Lower ball joint is my first guess, upper ball joint is my second. Get some grease in all four ball joints and make a few turns and see if it'll go away.

I have some high temp wheel bearing grease would this be what i need?

Yes your struts/shocks DO have something to do with steering(while car is rolling). When you turn the wheel the vehicle will shift weight, therefore resulting in pressure upon shocks/struts. This can cause a sound.
It is however probably a ball joint, but to say that it could NOT be suspension, would be just plain retarded, seeing as how the problem was described with the car moving...

Re: 1996 Civic si front end noises HELP
bought it in canada.
also the noise is present wit thhe car moving so im not rubbing fenders and im ruling out shocks/struts all together.
if i go sit in my car now without the key in and move my steering wheel it squeaks

if the vehicle is staionary...and it squeeks while turning....
it has to be either
A. outer tie-rod
B. lower balljoint
C. upper balljoint.
you were told this already!!! /THUD
this is what you can do...rgab a screwdriver..put it against each of those listed parts above. put your ear against the screwdriver...you will hear the squeek sound on the end of the screwdriver.
you can also cut each boot..spray some wd40...and keep turning the wheel side to side to get the lubrication to the part that is touching metal. i would recommend not to do this BECAUSE 1 out of those 3 parts is bad. that means 2 out of 3 parts are "good". you are cutting the boots of two good balljoints/tie-rod joints. you now have a chance to get moisture in the other two known good parts.
if the squeek is really bad you can put your hand over each of those parts listed. you should feel the vibration (vibration is noise)
the squeek is metal to meatl contact vibrating very fast causing a sound. normally bad balljoints have play but in this case you already know that the metal to metal is to close to tolerances. so it would be hard to find play in the said balljoint/tie-rod if it is touching the balljoint/tie-rod housing.
yes all three of those parts are considerd "sealed" joints.
it is wise to do an alignment after but it isnt required. it is however required to get an alignemnt if you replace or find that the outer tie-rod is the culprit of your squeek.
