1996 Civic EX oil leak
170k mi., auto trans. I bought the car for $500.00. I have a leak coming from what looks like the bottom of the head on the corner of the block (passenger side). The oil covers the engine stamp (D16Y8). Someone suggested the rear main could be leaking and the oil is traveling up with vibrations before gravity brings it back down..... :/ ?
So far I have replaced the valve cover gasket, front crank seal, oil pump o-ring, dist o-ring, cam seals and vtec solenoid gasket. The o-ring/seals are all OEM.
Any other ideas? I can post a pic later...

Yup clean the bay as good as you can.
If there is heavy grease in the area youre looking at use some wd40 and a tooth brush or wire brush and itll come right off then with the block clean you wont even need to tell us where its coming from because itll be really obvious

Um, ya.... the block is spotless and no it's not obvious...if it was I wouldn't be asking.
I guess I should ask, has anyone have a oil
leak from the head gasket?

Re: 1996 Civic EX oil leak
Mine has a leak on the same spot. Oil was coming out between the engine and tranny.
After replacing the rear main seal, dizzy oil seal, o ring, vtec solenoid gasket, oil leak is still there.
Not to thread jack though.
But you can use my reference to guide you what are the things to check

Re: 1996 Civic EX oil leak
Had the exact same issue couple of years ago in my 99 EX.
I was seriously mad about this leak, replaced Distributor O rings and also my VTEC solenoid gasket aswell. My worse bet was that the Head was kind of wrapped and then I was loosing oil from there.
I took out the VTEC solenoid like 5 times because I was pretty sure (after some serious cleaning) that the leak was coming from there. Read lots of posts and some one told me that it might be somehow cracked. Well it wasnt.
Here is how i Fixed it :
1- Take out the VTEC Solenoid and clean it very well with some carb cleaner
2- Take a whetstone on a flat surface and scratch the inner part of the VTEC solenoid so you get a flat even surface
3- Clean everything again
4- Install a new inner VTEC Gasket and add some very good high temp silicone
5- Let it dry for at least a day
That was the only thing that stopped my leak, I guess somehow my VTEC solenoid got deformed on the inner part generating a leak. Please use the proper torque when putting it back together.

If you do use a sealer just make sure to avoid getting any on the screen filter and apply it to the entire metal perimeter as well as on top of snowman gasket.
