1996 Civic (D16Y7 engine) Intake manifold Question
This is probably a dumb question, but please try to be respectful in your responses. I realize that Honda knows what they are doing, but I'm hoping this is one of those things that's simply for redundancy.
Is the intake manifold bracket really necessary? Has anyone installed their intake manifold without the bracket? If so, did any harm come as a result of it - was the life of the gasket shortened or anything else harmed?
I am finishing up an engine build and I'm thinking about doing the "mini me" swap sometime in the future, and this bracket is a serious PITA for me to remove/install with the engine in the car, so I'm wondering if it's entirely necessary to have it in there.
Thank you,
M

U can leave the bracket off. It will be fine. I am running a y8 manifold on my y7 without the bracket. It will not shorten gasket life. I ran a skunk2 IM on my gsr for over 10yrs without the manifold bracket. No sagging, no leak, nothing wrong. This should answer your question.

I couldn't understand that for the life of me either. I also got rid of mine when I installed my Skunk2 intake. Gives me a bit more room back there!

Re: 1996 Civic (D16Y7 engine) Intake manifold Question
Honda knew people would run NOS, especially the two big bottle setups, and if not careful would cause intake manifold danger. So as long as you don't run that type setup you'll be fine. Also weld in your passenger floor pan plate if you plan on running that setup as well as it could have danger of blowing out as well.
