1996 Civic blower motor issues
This winter I developed a problem with my 96 Honda Civic. The blower motor underneath the passenger side has started to create a shrill noise. I assume it needs cleaning ? Or possibly replacing ? I still get cold air and hot air no issues with that. Just that I hear the noise and it doesn't blow enough air through my vents (had an issue where it wasn't blowing enough through the windshield vents and would fog up my windshield in the winter)
Now I'm not very knowledgeable in these matters but have a good mechanical aptitude and wish to tackle this problem. If I need to replace the blower, does the whole dash needs to come off ? Also, does this discharge the freon in the system (I'm told this is harmful to the environment so I need to handle it carefully). Is there a guide to the air conditioning repair somewhere that I can use ?
Any help is highly appreciated.

You can either google the service manual for your car or look in here https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-d...tions-1998336/
Scroll down to the AC section and you should be good.

The blower motor drops out after removal of three screws/bolts. Check whether the blower fan cup is filled with debris. Also blindly reach your hand into the hole where the blower was and pull out any debris around the evaporator area as well. Post pictures and your findings.

You asked a negative question so...
...I think Tony means, Yes, it won't cause refrigerant to leak out.
It's about as safe as car work gets...just disconnect the battery before pulling the motor and reconnect when done.

It is safe to do it in my garage ?
